I need some help with this. I am working on a major project and I am trying to split my document.

I bookmark all the pages and then go over to "tools" and click "split document" I select "Top Level Bookmarks" and to title each file with the bookmark name.

I then keep getting the following message : TerraGo : Error while Splitting "Your document may be read only or saved to another area.."

How do I fix this? I have about 110 pages I don't want to have extract them all.

Hi Nathanr,

As per the issue description mentioned above, you are unable to split document as you are receiving an error that file may be read-only or saved to another area, is that correct?

Could you try saving the file on a local drive on the machine and try splitting the file again and check if that works?

Also, try once to save the PDF with a new name using the "Save as" option. Then try to split the document and check if you still get the error.

You may also try the troubleshooting steps given in the following forum thread discussing the similar issue:

Split PDF - read-only error

Also, let us know dot version of Acrobat and the operating system installed on the machine? You may refer to the steps given in this link on how to check the version in Acrobat: Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

Let us know if you need any help.

That is correct.  I have tried to save it and I still have the issue.  It is a PC running Windows 10 and is Adobe Acrobat Pro XI

Could you confirm Acrobat version you are using on the machine? Also, have you tried the suggestions given in this thread - Split PDF - read-only error  which worked for some users facing the similar issue?
