I am unable to associate TIFFs with Acrobat Pro in Windows 10. Methods tried:

  1. Right-click on a TIFF, select Properties, in the General Tab, click Change on the Opens With line. Select Adobe Acrobat DC in list. No magic - remains associated with Windows Photo Viewer
  2. Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Choose default apps by file type. Scroll down to .tif and .tiff. Click icon and select Adobe Acrobat DC in list. No magic - remains associated with Windows Photo Viewer

This worked as of last week. Any ideas?

SOLUTION:

I attempted this solution before I posted the request for help:

  1. Open command line as Administrator
  2. assoc .tif=Acrobat.Document.9
  3. assoc .tiff=Acrobat.Document.9

This failed multiple times.

After resetting the Acrobat Preferences as noted in Shivam's last instructions it worked. So the complete solution is:

  1. Reset Adobe Prefs per How to reset Acrobat Preference settings to default.
  2. Open command line as Administrator
  3. assoc .tif=Acrobat.Document.9
  4. assoc .tiff=Acrobat.Document.9

Shivam - thank you for

Hi Zipperskin,

As per the issue description mentioned above, you have associated .tiff files to open with Acrobat Pro on your Windows 10 machine but that doesn't work, is that correct?

Could you confirm Acrobat version you are using on the machine? You can check the same using the steps given in this link: Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

Also, try rebooting the machine once if you haven't already and try associating the .tiff to open with Acrobat and check if that helps.

Also, are you able to view .tiff files by launching Acrobat > click File > Open > and locating the .tiff file? Does that work?

Let us know if you need any help.

Hi Zipperskin,

Thanks for sharing the info. Could you try resetting preferences for Acrobat using the steps given in this link: How to reset Acrobat Preference settings to default. ,   reboot the machine after resetting the preferences and try again? Does that work?

If issue still persists, try repairing Acrobat using "Repair installation" option under Help menu, reboot the machine after repair and check.

Thanks,

Shivam

Note - the assoc command line is version dependent - the example I gave assumed Acrobat 9. On Acrobat 15 the command line is:

assoc .tif=Acrobat.Document.2015.
