In the latest Lightroom Classic update the thumbnail badges have disappeared from grid view on my MAC laptop but they are OK on my Windows desktop. All view settings are identical. Can anyone explain what's happened please.

Try resetting LR's preferences: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/articles-page/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/ . LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it fixes a surprising number of bad behaviors.

Please try switch off the GPU support from the Lightroom preferences and check if that helps to fix the issue

Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance tab > Uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" > Restart Lightroom.

Badges in the thumbnail bar automatically turn off if you resize them too small. Perhaps that is your problem?

Make sure the menu item View > Grid View Style > Show Badges is checked

For the filmstrip at the bottom, go to Preferences > Interface and make sure Show Badges is checked. Then increase the vertical height of the filmstrip if necessary.

Yes, thanks. Pressing opt+shift when starting LR brought up the option to reset preferences and that brought back the badges. Thanks again.

Glad you got it resolved. It's really a shame that after all these years, LR still corrupts its preferences file all too often.
