Lightroom Catalogue can't be opened

Hi,

My desktop crashed recently, so I now want to use the Lightroom catalogue on my laptop. When I try to open this catalogue on my laptop (same Adobe CC account), I got a message that the catalogue is too new for my version of Lightroom. How is this possible (since I only have one Adobe CC account) and how can I fix this problem?

Thanks a lot!

Lightroom catalogs are not backwards compatible.

You seem to have an older version installed on your laptop, so you need to upgrade to the same version as you have on the desktop. Use the CC desktop app to upgrade, or go to Help > Updates in Lightroom.

To verify what version you have installed, go to Help > About Lightroom.

When I go to Help > Preferences, I dont' have an option to update

Lightroom, there's only a button 'Open'.

No, that is an even older version. You need to install Lightroom Classic. You do not do this from the Help menu in Lightroom, but from the CC app in your menu bar. Quit Lightroom first. The advice to check the Help menu was just to check the version, not to upgrade that way.
