Sounds like Canons CC has slipped over the years. I bought the adapter in 82, and used it regularly through multiple weddings, etc (bracket mounted) up until a couple years ago when I switched to digital.
For curiosity sake, I just pulled it out of my retired camera bag for a quick look-over and the cord and adapter ends are still in excellent condition, save for a few scoff marks here and there...
