4. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Jan 8, 2008 9:54 AM (in response to greenjumpyone)Ramona, what do you shoot with? I hear that Getty will not accept dslr resolutions under 20 Mpx. This leaves out even the new Nikon d3 and certainly the d300. -

Ramona Dear Jan 8, 2008 12:55 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)... hmmmm .... never got that memo ... cause there are photogs out there shooting with the Fuji S5 (?) which is comparable to the d300 -
7. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Jan 8, 2008 1:38 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)Now that's interesting, Ramona. I was told the only acceptable DSLR at was the high end Canon, whatever it's designation is! By a stock shooter.
So much for that.
Thanks! -
8. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Ramona Dear Jan 8, 2008 1:53 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)I don't shoot stock ... just news. Maybe that is different?? Before I got my D2X ... I was shooting with the D100 (MS coast during Katrina)
(edit) whups ... that wasn't for getty, it was for the National Guard .. -
9. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Jan 8, 2008 6:14 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)Perhaps it is for stock, and particularly, for commercial stock. 50 Meg is the minimum size for some agencies for commercial stock. That leaves me only my scanned images as viable for commercial. -
10. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Ramona Dear Jan 9, 2008 3:53 AM (in response to greenjumpyone)I use shutterstock stock photography for my alcohol ads ... you have any there? I'll make sure to use 'em! ;) -

Hudechrome-sd9sPI Jan 9, 2008 10:10 AM (in response to greenjumpyone)Thanks. I just wanted to avoid the problem of looking too commercial here.
I'll google Centiv. -
15. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Susan S. Jan 10, 2008 3:18 AM (in response to greenjumpyone)I can't remember what the Getty camera list includes, but it's a reasonably wide range of high end DSLRs (not including my 20D as I recall, but all their pro cameras, and Nikon's top of the range efforts). If you contribute to Getty RF through their subsidiary microstock, istock (istock's exclusive contributers who have sold more than a certain number of images qualify this way) then it's just a 12 mpixel image size limit, no restrictions on cameras. I haven't sold enough pictures to qualify and my camera doesn't have the pixels! -
16. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Jan 10, 2008 6:39 AM (in response to greenjumpyone)Thanks, Susan.
I doubt I would ever qualify for Getty, so I suppose it matters little, but I do try to verify claims others make where I may be involved. -

Ramona Dear Jan 10, 2008 8:39 AM (in response to greenjumpyone)hell ... news agencies will take a 3mg cell phone photo if it's a money shot! -
18. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Jan 10, 2008 4:34 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)LOL!
I cannot even run my cell phone camera! I want a telephone, not a laptop! -
19. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Ramona Dear Jan 10, 2008 4:56 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)lol ... I know what ya mean! sometimes I don't even want the phone!
. do you have people (once they know you are a photog) bring you their cameras and say, "...will you show me how to work my camera?" I have it happen so much I wanna throttle people. I'm just as dumb as the next guy till I've read the manual! -
20. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Jan 10, 2008 5:21 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)Those freakin' manuals! My Verizon won't tell you much about the phone itself until page 50 or so!
WTF! All I want is to retrieve my messages, dial out and have some speed dials.
I don't even have a delete button for saved messages. Probably there somewhere in the "Left>99>abc or something. The damn thing says "your message will be deleted but plays it first, and I hafta listen to the whole thing before it kills it, or maybe it won't. Probably because that's 1,2,3 minutes more they can charge for!

21. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
greenjumpyone Jan 10, 2008 5:28 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)# to skip the message
7 to delete
9 to save -
22. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Jan 10, 2008 5:42 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)Tkx.
What ever happened to "Delete"?
Actually, it's the same way on my Qwest mailbox!
Duh!
One thing that is bad with Verizon is that it waits a long time to tell you you have messages. Even when I checked them this morning there were none, yet this afternoon, the phone went off and it then told me i had 2 voicemails, one from November! and the other from Monday last.
It did this while I was driving and I assumed it was my partner calling as only a couple of folks know it. So I can see why people get in trouble driving and trying to deal with problem calls. -
23. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Jan 10, 2008 5:45 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)I have a recycled phone number so I get calls for this Megan person, wanting to set up after school stuff, wondering why she's not calling back, and one day it was Megan's mother!
Sheeesh! -
24. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
greenjumpyone Jan 10, 2008 6:15 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)sometimes, if you happen to be on a competitor's tower, you won't get your voice mails until you actually get on a Verizon tower. I've had that happen to me a bunch of times. I'll be sitting right next to my phone, it doesn't ring and minutes later, I'll get a notice for a voice mail! It would seem the phone was searching for towers and finally managed to connect to a Verizon one!
We keep getting calls for a gal named Diane. Apparently she has a LOT of creditors and they don't want to believe that we are not her! We've had the same phone number 5 years and we are *still* fielding calls for her. :| -
25. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Jan 10, 2008 8:58 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)I would change the number! -
26. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
greenjumpyone Jan 11, 2008 3:33 AM (in response to greenjumpyone)Slowly but surely we're getting less and less calls! My hubby is used to the number, so he doesn't want to chance. Now, if he gets a call and it's a number he doesn't know, he just lets it go to voice mail (he checks his voice mail from a land line too!) and sometimes they leave a message and sometimes they don't. <shrug> -
27. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Ramona Dear Jan 11, 2008 3:43 AM (in response to greenjumpyone)ha ha! I've just learned that I need to turn my phone off on occasion ... to let it re-set. I didn't get messages (text) for about 3 days - thought I was just lucky! I cut off my phone (for some reason ...?) and when I turned it back on ... 15 messages! -
28. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Jan 11, 2008 5:48 AM (in response to greenjumpyone)That's what happened to me, probably. I had the phone on the charger, and this model will not let you use it if it is charging. -

Go to Menu>Settings>System>Select System and choose Autmatic B -
30. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Jan 11, 2008 9:24 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)Thanks, Wade, but my phone has either "Home" or "Automatic". It is already set to Auto. Also, the path is pretty involved pressing the right hand quarter of the ring surrounding "OK" 2 times (for this operation!) then going on.
I guess I'll have to dig in. It's not that I can't, it's just that, after 50+ years of dealing with an ever increasing complexity in Technology, I would just as soon have my phone not be one of that breed. Bad enough that it is my camera.
Hmm, interesting. The manual indicates Auto or Auto B as selection but I only have Auto, with -0- explanations except see your service provider.
The manual has 105 pages of instructions. For a Phone! I had to go to p55 to find the way to get to your path.
For a phone!
Ok, that blows another 1/2 hr of my life! But I am not blaming you, Wade! :-) -
31. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Wade S Zimmerman Jan 12, 2008 7:33 AM (in response to greenjumpyone)Well Lawrence don't worry about blaming me I am used to it. -
32. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Ann Shelbourne Jan 13, 2008 1:54 AM (in response to greenjumpyone)But once you have waded through the 105 pages, you can stand on a mountain top in China and transmit a photograph of it to the computer of anyone else in the world which is as close to digital photography that I am intending to get.
For everything else there is FILM!!
(Mastercard NOT needed color processing costs me 29 cents per roll.)
;) -

well there is your time as well. -
34. Re: Stock Photography (and other stuff)
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Jan 13, 2008 11:16 AM (in response to greenjumpyone)Hi, Ann! Nice to see you are back! I hope you are doing well. Many here are rather worried as is moi.
Point well taken, but we all have choices to make. If I am on any mountain top, including the mountains of my learning, I am content to make the photograph and return to my lab to massage it.
BTW, I do know how to do it. That's rather simple. I just don't want to wade through 55 pages to get to the point that I understand the basics of using the phone ala Verizon. -

A breath-taking experience (literally!) and having climbed up there all I managed to gasp was; "I am ON the Wall" just about the most ridiculously facetious and banal remark that anyone could make! But it was such an amazing and awe-inspiring moment that it literally took my breath away.
Wade:
Processing time for C41 is less than 30 minutes per tank-full.
And I don't have to drive to a lab to deliver and collect my film either. (Out here in the wilds that would be a 25-mile round-trip and, even worse, use more than a gallon of gas too.

What have Pixentral done? Pasting the HTML line no longer seems to work? -

Ann Shelbourne Jan 17, 2008 9:23 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)Apparently the problem is not the fault of Pixentral at all the Adobe Forums have had to disable the use of html links for the moment because of malicious spamming. -
