Wade S Zimmerman Apr 7, 2008 5:55 AM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)Right now the idea of being tether to a camera does not appeal to be but with wi fi I can see it and since this is small enough to be in a cell phone it certainly could be in a camera. -

(Laurentius_Todie) Apr 7, 2008 7:34 AM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)Wade, there was a time when photojurnalists were communicating with their agencies by homing pigeons.
Electronic communications have been here for a long time.
Maybe not in camera (as a retoucher I don't care), but definitely wireless. -

Wade S Zimmerman Apr 7, 2008 12:35 PM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)Then why does everyone have a card reader?
By the way did you see my cousin Bobby Zimmerman won a Pulitzer Prize!
I know everyone knows him as Bob Dylan but we call him Bobby Zimmerman. -

Allen Wicks Apr 7, 2008 12:51 PM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)I have argued for years here that there is more to images than pixel count anyway.
WiFi has been an option on Pro Nikons for years now. But not AFAIK beyond studio setups.
>Then why does everyone have a card reader?
Safe workflow protocol and fast. -
5. Re: 5 megapixel cell phones
Wade S Zimmerman Apr 7, 2008 1:00 PM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)I think it makes sense in a digital workflow to be able to have capabilities like ftp and and e-mail and other internet based review applications to that the photographer can be free to travel without having the client present and it would be great to be able to upload images directly from the camera to a remote server rather then to a laptop.
Even if you are connected to the laptop by wireless network would be the way to go.
I am glad to see the wifi option for the Nikon. I like what I hear about the D3 so much so I am actually thinking of getting one. -

Fred Nirque Apr 7, 2008 1:35 PM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)I've already ordered mine - it should be here next week. I'll worry about how to pay for it later, but from what I've seen of results from that camera, I cannot
i not
afford to have it. -

Hudechrome-sd9sPI Apr 7, 2008 2:50 PM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)Same here, except then I get the privilege of buying all new lenses as well.
I still think d300, or maybe by the time I get a roundtuit, I get a D3?? -
9. Re: 5 megapixel cell phones
Fred Nirque Apr 7, 2008 3:31 PM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)I kept all my lenses from film days. :-)
The only lens swap I'm contemplating is the 12-24DX for a 17-35mm f/2.8 AF-S (I never really had the wide side covered by zoom back then, relying on an 18mm & a 24mm prime for that end, both of which I still have, as noted).
I might also eventually swap the 10.5mm fisheye for a 16mm, but there's no real hurry on that.
The aberration reduction technology and improved dynamic range on the D3 is one of the main reasons I went for that over a D300 - the results of those innovations are simply startling, and to my mind of greater importance than its brilliant high ISO performance as they affect every shot, not just the odd low-light occasion (of course I'm talking about my needs here - others will have different priorities). -

Wade,
Are you really Dylans cousin?
Ive been meaning to ask you this for some time and glad you brought it to the forefront again to remind me. Dylan (Zimmerman) is one of my favorite troubadours of all timesbeen listening to him for ages, it seems. Too bad his voice isnt what it used to be. Unfortunately, all that puffing throughout the years has taken its toll. Oh well, hes left us a bountiful legacy that very few artists seldom achieve, if ever. Definitely, one in a million! -

(-macman) Apr 7, 2008 6:21 PM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)Well, in this 63 vid, I'd have to say yes... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ced8o50G9kg&feature=related
Although, during that particular time frame, Dylan usually sported a bushier hairdo. Ill see if I can hunt down some earlier pix of Dylan to compare more fully.
BTW, did you ever get to meet the man?
TIA.
Edit: check out some of these pix from Dylans younger days: http://www.angelfire.com/de/dylanite/
Other than the mop of hair, this isnt a bad match:

17. Re: 5 megapixel cell phones
Fred Nirque Apr 8, 2008 3:15 AM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)-macman -I've owned a 60mm 2.8 since 1993, have used it heavily and it is still going strong. I bought a 105mm VR a couple of years ago to get me back a bit further from subjects but that was the only reason as the 60 performs every bit as well. It's a sharp, robust lens with nice bokeh in the macro range. -

Wade S Zimmerman Apr 8, 2008 8:56 AM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)I do actually a lot of work with the cell phone but as mine is starting to show its age there will come a time when it has to be retired and the new phone have cameras that are too good. -

Wade S Zimmerman Apr 8, 2008 2:23 PM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)I am working on a PC lens for the cell phone that would be cool. Probably doable on a cell I would think.
I make more money with the cell phone photographs of buildings then i do with the large format camera captures.
LOL! -

Thanks for the feedback, Fred.
It does look/feel like a well-crafted lens, if outer appearances are any indication. Itll be teamed up with a Nikon D80 and it will be interesting to see what results the combo is capable of delivering. Although, the user is somewhat a novice to date, theyre more than willing to learn. -
28. Re: 5 megapixel cell phones
Fred Nirque Apr 8, 2008 10:10 PM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)I just bought a used D80 on behalf of a friend and lent her my 60mm to get the feel of the camera. Mistake. The macro photos she's turning out of fungi are better than those that I've taken. The D80 really likes the 60mm. -
29. Re: 5 megapixel cell phones
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Apr 9, 2008 7:51 AM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)I tried a prime 50mm lens from the film versions and found it really awkward, as there is no electronic communication, which really mitigates against these lenses.
I'll wager that the 60mm has it's sweet spots with respect to center to corner sharpness configured so that the D80 sees those differently than lenses designed for that chip size. -

These other two are definitely serious.
Kind of funny. -
31. Re: 5 megapixel cell phones
Fred Nirque Apr 9, 2008 4:06 PM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)>no electronic communication
The 60mm is an AF-D lens, it communicates perfectly with the latest cameras. The camera-driven focusing is a bit slow, but that's all. -
32. Re: 5 megapixel cell phones
Hudechrome-sd9sPI Apr 9, 2008 4:56 PM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)The 50mm was manual everything! -
33. Re: 5 megapixel cell phones
Wade S Zimmerman Apr 9, 2008 8:28 PM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)The only problem with these two lenses is once you put it on the cell phone the phone won't fit in your pocket. -

Hudechrome-sd9sPI Apr 11, 2008 6:28 AM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)Egads! I still have the hasselblad system intact. The best I could get for all of it was under $1000. :-( -
38. Re: 5 megapixel cell phones
Wade S Zimmerman Apr 11, 2008 11:25 AM (in response to Wade S Zimmerman)Because the hasselblad will not be able to be fixed in the near future since they do not make them any more. And they break a lot. -
