What version of Camera Raw are you using? If not the most recent (the 4.5 public release beta posted on Adobe Labs), then please try that.
ops sorry ... I'm currently using the ACR 4.4, but I gave a try to the 4.5 beta ... and it seems to me that the problem is still there! I mean I reopened the Bridge .. also regenerated the thumb's cache but no camera serial read correctly yet!
Can you please post a sample raw file from your D300?
Sure I can,
you can find it here:
let me know! TIA! ;)
I'm seeing the camera serial number with 4.5 beta using your sample file.
surely not in Bridge (v. 184.108.40.206) where the metadata right panel in the EXIF section show no camera serial #. Same thing in LightRoom ... so I don't know where you dispay the #?
Yes, using Bridge 220.127.116.11. I see "Serial Number 3109696" at the bottom of the Camera Data (EXIF) panel using CR 4.5 public beta when selecting your file.
If you pick Camera Raw Preferences... from Bridge's menu, what version number of Camera Raw appears in the title of the preferences dialog? Did you purge the Bridge cache after switching Camera Raw versions?
well ... for me things are a bit different ... it seems to me that the camera serial # "appears" in the Bridge panel IF AND ONLY IF you open the file with ACR and modify some parameters (and press the DONE button). Otherwise you have "no serial" in the Bridge panel still. I don't know why. Look at this image of Bridge:
let me know something.
By modifying the settings in Camera Raw, you changed the metadata, forcing Bridge to re-read it.
Purging the Bridge cache should do the same thing.
No. It does NOT work like that. I purged the cache. And also I found two hidden files called in the dir:
which I deleted. Plus I also deleted the xmp sidecar files associated to the NEF modified files only.
Result: Bridge without the xmp files does NOT find any camera serial # in the NEF files. And, after purging and/or deleting the cache and the associated files, it does update the thumbnails and the related metadata BUT it does NOT recognize the camera serial #.
The only way to have the camera # read in the EXIF metadata by Bridge is to generate an xmp sidecar files.
Do you realize you are presuming to contradict the creator of both Photoshop and Camera Raw?
For whatever it's worth, I downloaded your file and could read your camera's serial number right away in Bridge.
As for your having "purged the cache", you need to specify which cache and how.
At least on the Mac, the global Purge Cache command in Bridge preferences is broken and the cache does not rebuild properly after using that command. You have to go through the Tools menu in Bridge, purging the cache for each folder, one by one.
Note that the ACR cache and the Bridge cache(s) are two different things.
it's not a matter of what I presume, that's what happens on my pc and I don't have any reason to lie, don't you think so? ;)
As for the cache in Bridge I can be more precise:
1) I purged the global cache (Edit->ACR pref-> Camera raw cache-> Purge button)
2) to be sure I also manually deleted the files in Camera raw cache path.
3) I purged the local cache (edit->Pref->Cache->"Purge All cache Thumbs")
4) I also manually delete the two hidden files ".BridgeCache" and ".BridgecacheT" that are present in every single folder where Bridge works.
At that point Bridge read all the NEF files again and re-creates the thumbs but still does NOT read the camera serial #. If I open just ONE file with ACR (right button->"Open in Camera raw...") and make any modification and save it, then Bridge recognizes the camera serial # (I guess from the .xmp sidecar file) JUST in that SINGLE file which I modified.
That's it! Maybe I'm making some (hidden) mistake in the procedure. I don't know!
My d300 raw files are not recognized by Bridge, it will not open them? I just got the camera and am wondering did I miss something in the settings? I have had no problems to work with Raw files with a D200 or a D2H. So what's going on I wonder.
What version of Bridge? What version of Camera Raw?
Bridge v. 18.104.22.168
ACR v. 4.5 beta
You write in post #13:
>1) I purged the global cache (Edit->ACR pref-> Camera raw cache-> Purge button)
I had written in #12:
the global Purge Cache command in Bridge preferences is broken and the cache does not rebuild properly after using that command. You have to go through the Tools menu in Bridge, purging the cache for each folder, one by one.
I tried all what you wrote. Nothing changes.
Could it conceivably be that you do NOT have the serial number box CHECKED in Bridge preferences?
do you mean under EXIF metadata !?!?!? ahahah!!! No, it's boxed , I see regularly all the other cameras #. It's like Adeline said. Only with D300 it occurs not to get the serial #. I think it's still a bug to be fixed...
If it were a bug, I'd be seeing it too; but I have no problem seeing the serial number of your camera in Bridge.
If you pick
