1. Re: now installed CS3 on new Windows Ultimate 64bit - but fonts prob
BobLevine Nov 7, 2008 2:44 PM (in response to KarenSC)Are they Type 1 fonts? If so, yes, I've seen this problem and my fix has
been to use Truetype. You can also try installing them in the InDesign
fonts folder.

KarenSC Nov 7, 2008 2:47 PM (in response to KarenSC)Thank you I will try.
(Forgot to add to my specs above that it is a Dell Precision T5400, in case anyone is looking for a computer at Dell. I also asked for dual dvd drives instead of one, and 2 hard drives. It's very fast.) -

Dov Isaacs Nov 7, 2008 2:52 PM (in response to KarenSC)Many of the fonts in the Windows font directory are not strictly "Western Latin" fonts and therefore, InDesign puts them into a separate alphabetical section of the font list, "below" the other fonts. See if you can find your "missing" fonts there. I have yet to see a truly missing font from InDesign.

4. Re: now installed CS3 on new Windows Ultimate 64bit - but fonts prob
KarenSC Nov 7, 2008 3:00 PM (in response to KarenSC)Thanks Bob and Dov - I have now found some 'missing fonts' like Zapf Calligraphic and Zapf Chancery.. Just can't get Arial Narrow and family fonts to show. Indesign does show some new fonts that must have come with Vista Ultimate.
I successfully moved my design files over, but the fonts need to match to open existing files. Will keep trying. -

6. Re: now installed CS3 on new Windows Ultimate 64bit - but fonts prob
KarenSC Nov 10, 2008 12:22 AM (in response to KarenSC)Thanks Bob - I followed the instructions, installed the hot fix and removed the Adobefnt.lst a number of times, rebooted twice, but still can't use the Arial Narrow font family. So I ended up making a definite change to using Myriad Pro for this particular client. -

Ian C. Matthew Nov 10, 2008 3:29 AM (in response to KarenSC)Hey, I recently noticed this too...I hope this is fixed in InDesign CS4 as I should have ID CS4 as part of Design Standard in the next couple of days!!! :-) Otherwise I'll have to go through my old CorelDraw fonts folder and see what matching TT equivalents I have.

It's a Microsoft issue, not something Adobe can fix. -
9. Re: now installed CS3 on new Windows Ultimate 64bit - but fonts prob
KarenSC Nov 10, 2008 3:01 PM (in response to KarenSC)I agree with Bob and Peter - it's a Microsoft Office 2007 issue (NOT an Adobe or CS4 issue). Office 2007 was installed before any Adobe programs as it came with the computer. If I work out anything else I'll add here. Cheers. Karen -
10. Re: now installed CS3 on new Windows Ultimate 64bit - but fonts prob
KarenSC Nov 14, 2008 10:45 PM (in response to KarenSC)I found a post elswhere about the Arial Narrow font family.
It said to find an old computer/disc that had the Arial Narrow font family dated 1998. I was lucky to find a disc that I had copied my fonts folder in 1998. I deleted all Arial Narrow fonts, and copied the 4 old fonts dated 1998 Arial Narrow family to the fonts folder. All is working properly now.
The problem apparently has to do with Office 2007 not Adobe.
