IE does'nt recognize epub mime type

I have a problem IE recognizing the epub file format. If I click on an epub file link in firefox it's opened correctly in ADE. But doing the same in IE , IE recognizes the file as an zip file and opens in winzip. I have checked that the file with the mime-type information is stored as the first file in the container and that it is not compressed. Last week I have experienced the same problem on the penguin.co.uk site down loading their epub tasters. But now there the problem is solved. Has anyone any hint for me what the solution might be?

We saw this problem on the Penguin site (I work at Penguin) and it is a server side issue - basically the server needs reconfiguring to recognize epub as a mime type.

To view these files you can download them and then change the file extension from .zip to .epub.

Hi Jeremy,

thanks a lot for your hint. I've added the epub mime type to our apache webserver and now it works fine. BTW, Penguin has a smashing website. I (a bookseller in Germany) think that ebooks will play a major role in the booktrade in the future.
