1. Re: AI/PDF FILES UPLOAD FILES ON A SITE
Scott Falkner Oct 8, 2008 6:45 AM (in response to (lucypoiuy))You can do whatever you like with Illustrator or PDF files. The license applies to the program, not the files you create. -
2. Re: AI/PDF FILES UPLOAD FILES ON A SITE
(lucypoiuy) Oct 8, 2008 7:21 AM (in response to (lucypoiuy))....but this is about a e-book that people have to buy online to access.
I pretend to first have a free small sample of the ebook in pdf file just to show some pictures of the e-book but I am able to create pdfs on illustrator. The e-book to sell in AI format and I have a licence but not sure about the pdf thumbnail view I want to have online?? -
3. Re: AI/PDF FILES UPLOAD FILES ON A SITE
try67 Oct 8, 2008 7:28 AM (in response to (lucypoiuy))An e-book is not made out of AI files, but of PDF files. Only someone with Illustrator will be able to open an AI file. Anyone with Acrobat (Reader or otherwise) can open PDF files. -
4. Re: AI/PDF FILES UPLOAD FILES ON A SITE
(lucypoiuy) Oct 8, 2008 8:35 AM (in response to (lucypoiuy))That's because it is a vectorial e-book and most of the times illustrator is the most required.
But if you could answer this two questions I guess I will be completely clarified: Do I need adobe reader licence just to put some samples of the e-book available on the site? If I want to create a version of the e-book in pdf I need the licence? -

(lucypoiuy) Oct 8, 2008 9:18 AM (in response to (lucypoiuy))Thank u Try67 and Scott. You really helped me out I thought I needed a licence for that.

7. Re: AI/PDF FILES UPLOAD FILES ON A SITE
Scott Falkner Oct 8, 2008 9:28 AM (in response to (lucypoiuy))You need a license to install and operate software. You don't need any permission from anyone but the author (you) to do what you want with the files you make using that software. This is universal. You don't need permission from the hammer manufacturer to use the furniture you make with it. -

10. Re: AI/PDF FILES UPLOAD FILES ON A SITE
Scott Falkner Oct 8, 2008 2:03 PM (in response to (lucypoiuy))One uses lots of tools to make furniture, often including a hammer. One uses lots of tools to make a PDF document, often including Illustrator (and an OS, a mouse, a keyboard, a monitor, a hard drive, a font manager, fonts...) -

Harron K. Appleman Oct 8, 2008 2:27 PM (in response to (lucypoiuy))I've used a hammer to make a PDF document.
Wait a minute... maybe it's that I've gotten hammered to make a PDF document. -

13. Re: AI/PDF FILES UPLOAD FILES ON A SITE
Scott Falkner Oct 8, 2008 8:25 PM (in response to (lucypoiuy))Using Illustrator is more like using a hammer as a screwdriver. Man, I could use a stiff screwdriver. -

Are you saying that you got hammered and then made a PDF? Do you keep working during happy hour?
