1. Re: Dummy: Illustrator.exe - Fatal Application Exit
MT.Freelance Jan 25, 2009 6:26 PM (in response to MT.Freelance)Nope. Placing a copy of the version 4.0.0 of VersionCue.DLL in the expected location didn't work.

2. Re: Dummy: Illustrator.exe - Fatal Application Exit
MT.Freelance Jan 25, 2009 7:02 PM (in response to MT.Freelance)Further Addendum: Attempted to use the Adobe Auto Update for VersionCue 4.0.1 = Failed
Also tried directly downloading the update and installing that... failed.
This is getting old real quickly. -

MT.Freelance Jan 26, 2009 2:05 PM (in response to MT.Freelance)Located a workaround in the VersionCue forum. Still not a FIX, just a kludge.

Harron K. Appleman Jan 26, 2009 7:10 PM (in response to MT.Freelance)Seriously...
Did the error message really address you as "Dummy"? -
5. Re: Dummy: Illustrator.exe - Fatal Application Exit
MT.Freelance Jan 27, 2009 6:55 AM (in response to MT.Freelance)Yep.
Try it out.
Temporarily rename the Version Cue CS4/Client/4.0.x folder something else so that it 'breaks' and check it out.
It COULD be a result of how I had to activate my upgrade (by installing it in trial mode and then activating with a challenge code with the help of Adobe Tech support).
But even so... ^_^

8. Re: Dummy: Illustrator.exe - Fatal Application Exit
Harron K. Appleman Feb 5, 2009 4:29 PM (in response to MT.Freelance)Link produces "not authorized" error.
Search of KB with that number results in "no documents found." -
9. Re: Dummy: Illustrator.exe - Fatal Application Exit
Matthew Laun Feb 6, 2009 9:33 AM (in response to MT.Freelance)Give it another try. There was a problem with our KnowledgeBase (KB) authoring system yesterday, which got resolved last night. -

11. Re: Dummy: Illustrator.exe - Fatal Application Exit
Matthew Laun Mar 25, 2009 1:45 PM (in response to MT.Freelance)The root cause of this issue has finally been identified. This issue, cause, and solution are documented here:
http://www.adobe.com/go/kb408524
Please note that if a previous update failed due to the root cause, then it can leave your files in a state which will prevent future updates from working, simply because they don't find the files in the expected state. In which case, you need to do the complete solution, which involves a clean re-install (sorrry :-(
Sincerely,
Matthew -
12. Re: Dummy: Illustrator.exe - Fatal Application Exit
stanking Sep 7, 2009 9:44 PM (in response to Matthew Laun)I've got the same problem, but I'm not running Vista, so I can't apply the KB process as listed. Is there a similar KB article for Windows XP? This blows, and the fact that Adobe hasn't published a patch for this crap shows a definite lack in effort to support the product. The errors being encountered are Adobe's fault, not the users, so why such an involved lengthy fix - all manual steps - instead of an Adobe fix? So far I'm not impressed. I paid way too much to deal with this.
