    How to color halftone symbols

    CathyInMichigan Community Member
I have a library of halftone symbols and I would like to make each one a different color to use in a diagram. I have tried the Live Color dialog and couldn't make that work. I also created a color box, grouped it with the symbol and created an opacity mask but that just "shaded" the original symbol. Could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks so much!

          Explain the situation more.

What is a "haftone symbol"? Just a circle?
What do you mean by "each one"? Each Symbol in your Libary, or each instance on the page? If you're talking about coloring individual Instances, what is different about the several Symbols in the libary?

Are you familiar with the Symbol Stainer?
Are you familiar with the Replace Symbol command?

How many different colors are you dealing with? Is there some reason you can't include different-colored dots in the Symbol Library?

I have several Javascripts that let you replace and/or recolor objects randomly. But a better explanation of what you are trying to do is needed.

I guess my problem really is that I do not know what to do with halftone symbols! I can recolor, stain, replace etc. other symbols...just not the halftone ones. Maybe they are used for a different purpose. Nor can I figure out how to color a symbol that is B/W. Clearly, there's some aspect of the color properties that I don't understand. I'm very willing to read Help files or tutorials if you could suggest a topic. Thanks!

I'd love to help. But as explained, you're first going to have to answer some of my questions. I still don't know what you are referring to as a "halftone symbol."
