    Bizarre incorrect font issue

    RodneyA Community Member
I have a template file that I import Word documents into. Just recently, after I import the text, whenever I apply certain paragraph styles, the font goes pink and is set in Myriad (the default "missing font" font). When I look at the character palette, it tells me that the font is [ITC Zapf Dingbats-Medium]. It's in square brackets, because I own no such font (I've got the Apple default "Zapf Dingbats" Truetype dfont, but it omits ITC from the name.) Clicking or option-clicking on the correct paragraph style in the Paragraph Styles palette doesn't help, nor does "remove character overrides" or "remove paragraph overrides." Double clicking on the name and checking the "Edit paragraph style" box shows that the correct font is in the definition (Univers LT Std in this case). The template behaves normally before the Word file is imported. The only thing I can do is select the text and explicitly choose the Univers font (which trashes all the overrides that I DO want.) I've tried zapping system and application font caches using Font Explorer. Any other ideas?

          Rodney,
The word file probably contains styles with the same names as InDesign has causing a style change with the import.
Check the show import options to control how word styles are imported.

I did find that some -- though not all -- of the problem type had the character style "Bullets and Numbers1" applied. When I did a search and change to change that style to "[None]" it fixed those. However, the text inside table cells still gets that font, and it has no character style applied. Thanks for reminding me about the import options; I imagine that will help a lot. Since I get the word files from different authors in each issue, it's probably not worth trying to get all seismologists to use the same template.
