Is it possible for search engines such as Google to index on a generated WebHelp?
One of my developers feel strongly about our Help being able to load in search engines such as Google. That is if you have an issue with our server based app you should be able ot paste text into the search field in a browser and launch a number of hits (of which hopefully part of our Help will appear). Do any of you have this "need"?
I suppose that because you can add a topic to a Favorite list in RH then you should also be able to bookmark topics in browsers?

Welcome to the forum.

You are referring to the Google website accessing your online help. I think it is only likely to do that if the help is accessible to anyone via the internet and is not behind a corporate firewall. I think you need to consider the desirability of doing what you suggest. The results that point to your help would be buried in the number of hits that Google typically returns. to get high ranking on your help topics against all the contenders seems a bit unlikely.

Is it possible that what the developer meant was the help having a Google type search?

To add to Peter's excellent advice, you may also want to look at the RoboHelp Server product. It has a search interface similar to Google and allows searching inside files (e.g. PDF, DOC) to which the help links. It is not everyone's cup of tea but it may be worth consideration. Hello Mette_Nyberg -

Short answer: YES!

We use a Google search engine in our (custom) Web-based software. You can program it to index whatever you want. (Neat piece of hardware!)

Note that we block the "public" (Internet) Google search.

Regards,
GEWB
