Lee Jay-7OQGJF Jul 3, 2007 7:36 AM (in response to Cindy-)The application is essentially the same on both, so separation only helps with bug reporting. I'd be okay with sub-forums for Mac and Windows bug reporting. -

But when you find a bug, you don't initially know if it is OS related. -

Lee Jay-7OQGJF Jul 3, 2007 8:08 AM (in response to Cindy-)Right...start at the combined forum and get help and/or verification to gain a better understand. Then report if it's still a bug. -

It's not a question of "like", it's how it is, and how the folk who make decisions have decided it will be.
Splitting the forums now would mean 4300 plus topics (7000 plus posts) would be orphaned in a general forum because there is no way of knowing which platform specific forum a large number of existing posts should be placed. The following link will give you an indication of how busy this forum is compared to all of the other Photoshop family of products http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bbf2764/
If folk were more disciplined in what they post i.e. who gives a toss about your new computer/camera/iphone/car/bicycle, etc, the mass of BS info clogging up the forum would vanish. Additionally, if a question or info is platform specific it would be better if it was identified as such. -

(Jack_Kelley) Jul 3, 2007 9:27 AM (in response to Cindy-)Alas, we've been down this path before, Cindy, and if you are a Mac user, you will always get out-shouted. Why hanging out with us matters so much to the Windows folks is puzzling. Maybe it's our charm.
If you are not a Mac user, you probably cannot appreciate how time-wasting it is slogging through endless threads that are more Vista- or XP-centric than Lr-centric. And you definitely cannot appreciate how informative and useful this forum was in its original incarnation as Mac-only, when it was populated by a high percentage of working pros.
This is NOT intended to slight anyone who posts here, pro or amateur. Sean, Don, and numerous others contribute generously and expertly to this community. I am simply saying that as a Mac user, I would much prefer a Mac-only forum.
The chief argument has been that we might miss something. Personally, I'd be happy to take that chance. -

But they aren't and probably never will be. The way this forum is now is just plain unpleasant. Keep it the way it is and you are alienating a segment of the community and re-enforcing LR aa a PC product making Aperture more attractive to Mac users.
Just my opinion. I don't think I am alone in these feelings. -

Cindy- Jul 3, 2007 9:37 AM (in response to Cindy-)Jack, we cross posted. Yes, I am a Mac user. I know there are many Mac users who feel the same.
>Why hanging out with us matters so much to the Windows folks is puzzling.
Yes, it is very puzzling. It is never the other way around.
I just can't help but think that it would be better for Adobe in general to support its Mac users. Like I said, Aparture is getting more attractive to me every day. -

(Beauchamp) Jul 3, 2007 10:16 AM (in response to Cindy-)I'm a Mac user and I have learned a lot by looking at posts from other users regardless of what platform they are on.

As Ian implied, it would be nice if folks who think their problem is probably Hardware specific would note it in the Title, but even then I would probably wonder if I weren't missing a chance to learn something that also applies to my interests.

So, I am glat that TPTB decided to keep it as one forum for both Operating Systems.

However, I would support a separate sub-forum for folks who frankly only want to vent their frustrations. <smile> -

Ian Lyons Jul 3, 2007 10:25 AM (in response to Cindy-)The following forum may be of interest to those have photography rather than Lightroom questions: http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.3bb41392
and for those with nothing better to do with their time than camp on the UtoU forums we have: http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.1de5f598/ -

This I just don't get, because LR has always worked better on a Mac, Still does in most respects, including Printing which is why it seems everyfew days yet another PC user is showing up saying he has switched to Mac. There are many of us LR users that have barely looked at the Apple product.
As a Loongtime Forum User I can generally tell which OS a user is posting about from dropped hints or the complaint. I still have to generally ask for corroboration of OS, to be sure though.
So much more often the best and longets threads have little to do with OS. Like the Color management threads. Yes what one does may be different, but the why, wherefore and need for is the same.
And you will find PCers helping Mac users and vice versa, even with OS specific questions.
Oh, and I am an amateur Photographer.
