1. Re: Select folder without subfolders
Seán McCormack Feb 19, 2007 9:10 PM (in response to jrsforums)Not directly. You can select the folder after import and right click and hit delete. A dialog will appear telling you that the files will be removed from the Library but not deleted. -
2. Re: Select folder without subfolders
(Dexter_Crowley) Feb 19, 2007 10:03 PM (in response to jrsforums)Well, this pretty much sucks. The feature to exclude subfolders from the current view (essential to me) was present in the last Beta - why was it dropped for 1.0? -
3. Re: Select folder without subfolders
(Franky!) Feb 20, 2007 2:45 AM (in response to jrsforums)This sucks indeed...there is no way to just see the images of the parent folders...at least I haven't found one yet. That is not working for me!! -
4. Re: Select folder without subfolders
john beardsworth Feb 20, 2007 3:40 AM (in response to jrsforums)In the last beta you couldn't see folders.
Remember that the Folders view was implemented very late in the day after the very welcome abandonment of the Shoots concept. It's obviously needed and I'm sure we can get this added as an Alt/Opt modifier key.

5. Re: Select folder without subfolders
jrsforums Feb 20, 2007 4:42 AM (in response to jrsforums)JohnBeardy....<br /><br />I would suggest that the <default> be to just view the folder without any subfolders. I think this would be the desire of most or they would not have organized the folders that way.<br /><br />The 'alt' modifier could then be used to view/include the "tree" of subfolders below a given folder.<br /><br />I hope this can be modified with an update in the short term. LR has a lot of features I like, but this makes it really unusable unless I do major rearrangements to my folder structure.<br /><br />John -
6. Re: Select folder without subfolders
Seán McCormack Feb 20, 2007 4:44 AM (in response to jrsforums)Don't assume that. I want to see my subfolder images when I click on a parent folder. That's why I organise my parent folders to contain folders only. That way I can see as little or as many images as I want by clicking on whatever branch of the folder tree I choose. -
7. Re: Select folder without subfolders
jrsforums Feb 20, 2007 5:03 AM (in response to jrsforums)Sean....
Well...ya know...that's interesting...maybe you can answer this question for me...
My very top folder, for arguement, let's call it year, has no images in it. The next folder, may, let's say will have images in it and is called 'month', below the 'month' I will have "job" or "shoot" names for the folders. As I 'develop' images into 'psd', tif', jpg', I will have folders below the respective raw image folders for each of them.
In LR, when I go to 'Import', if I select the year folder (which is empty) the "Choose Select" button does not become active. I seem to need to select each of the folders below it (which have images) to import them. This does not result in a 'tree' with year at the top. I figured out a way to add the 'top' in (hope I remember how), but this should not be needed. How can I do this in a more efficient manner, which I would need if I decided to use the organization you are using (and the current LR seems to want).
Second, if I 'import' the tree, how can I avoid bringing in the tifs, etc. if I just want the raw (CR2, CRW) files?
Thanks, Sean.....JOHN -

fwampler Feb 20, 2007 5:07 AM (in response to jrsforums)Yes, I agree. This bad for me too. -
10. Re: Select folder without subfolders
Seán McCormack Feb 20, 2007 5:13 AM (in response to jrsforums)On import you can untick the tiffs in the import preview box. if you use 'By Original Folders' you get a folder list also and can untick any you don't want to import.
Re the folder methodology I would have a RAW folder also, so they're side by side in this case. I am finding this unnecessary for the most part in LR. As I can Export Jpeg/Tiff at will I'm not so concerned about keeping them. With PSD edits in PS, I'm happy to keep them in the same folder Stacked with the original. I don't have to search for them that way.
Before LR I used to organise by Year/Month and then have subfolders for Original/Edit/Final files. Using LR and it's flagging/ranking/labels, I don't need to anymore. -
11. Re: Select folder without subfolders
jrsforums Feb 20, 2007 6:12 AM (in response to jrsforums)Sean, thanks for the reply...
You still didn't (I think) answer how to import using the (empty) year folder.
Also, please expalin what you mean (and your current process/organization) when you say "...Before LR I used to organise by Year/Month and then have subfolders for Original/Edit/Final files. Using LR and it's flagging/ranking/labels, I don't need to anymore..."
Thanks...JOhn -
12. Re: Select folder without subfolders
Seán McCormack Feb 20, 2007 6:26 AM (in response to jrsforums)The top folder should become active John, at least this is what I'm seeing. Try hitting + beside Folders and navigating to the year folder and see if you can select it.
My current organisation is by genre.
For example if I shoot a concert, I will import to Concert>Venue>Band
so I end up with a file hierarchy like Concert>Roisin Dubh>Ben Taylor or similar. I include the date in the name. If a Band is a regular in a venue I will include a date folder.
I make Picks quickly in the folder and then filter out rejects and unflagged files.
I Edit in PS if I need and Export for whatever use required. For instance NME use Wamnet so I export to the Wamnet archive creator. The PSD file stacks with the original. If I want to hide the original and only show the PSD , I can unflag it. -

Use this path to import rather than the "Import" button on lower left???

14. Re: Select folder without subfolders
Seán McCormack Feb 20, 2007 7:16 AM (in response to jrsforums)I'm talking about right now with your current folders, but if you do select a folder that has images not in the Library it will initiate an import. -
15. Re: Select folder without subfolders
(Kevin_K_Yong) Feb 20, 2007 8:00 AM (in response to jrsforums)Being able to select if subitems are visible was a great feature in B4. I'm annoyed it is missing now.
When I export images from LR, they go in a subfolder under their respective RAW files.
e.g.
2007
-Feb
--Feb20_test (containing raw files)
---output (exported jpgs)
In B4, when I selected the Feb20_test shoot, I could choose whether or not the output subfolder images were displayed. This function is lost in V1.
I have a workaround. For folders where there are existing subfolders with jpgs, I sort by file type, then label the RAWs with a reg tag. then I can filter by red tag.
When I am importing new RAWs, I set the import metadata preset to include a red flag. Then all my RAWs are red. When I export jpgs to a subfolder, they do not show up when I select the parent RAW folder when I filter for red tags.
Please bring back the 'include subitems' checkbox! -
16. Re: Select folder without subfolders
(Jeff_Billimek) Feb 20, 2007 8:15 AM (in response to jrsforums)The ability to toggle recursive view of subfolders was a feature prior to 1.0 that I think many would like to see returned.
I know that overhauling the 'shoots' concept to a filesystem-based concept is superior, but I fail to see how that has any bearing on folder-only vs. recursive display within that folder.
Hopefully this functionality will be re-added at some point. -
17. Re: Select folder without subfolders
(Dexter_Crowley) Feb 20, 2007 10:34 AM (in response to jrsforums)I agree, I also love the new folders implementation, but the feature to hide items from subfolders is badly missing. Same goes for collections and sub-items there. -
18. Re: Select folder without subfolders
(Kevin_K_Yong) Feb 20, 2007 2:54 PM (in response to jrsforums)Yeah,
The tagging for RAWs workaround for folders works to some extent but it is no good for collections and subcollections... -
19. Re: Select folder without subfolders
(Nicolas_Genette) Feb 20, 2007 3:36 PM (in response to jrsforums)John Schwaller, I have exact same HDD hierarchy. First, you will need to import your parent folder only once, as after that you will import new folders, without sub tiffs.
Anyway, while in import mode, you can put *.cr2 in the file field at the bottom to not import tiffs.
Still not "ideal" but can do the trick

20. Re: Select folder without subfolders
(Ernst_Pisch) Mar 10, 2007 12:23 AM (in response to jrsforums)Same problem. I have my rawfiles in a subfolder and so I see all fotos twice. Who knows if and when this very useful feature will be reimplemented? -
21. Re: Select folder without subfolders
(dnheller) Mar 10, 2007 8:24 PM (in response to jrsforums)Sure seems like 1.0 is really Beta 5. :) -
22. Re: Select folder without subfolders
(crsaze) Mar 21, 2007 6:46 PM (in response to jrsforums)This is ridiculously annoying. Just started using LR. Already waiting for an update? Argh... I put my "websized" photos in subfolders of my edited files. I end up having photos that look essentially identical in thumbnail view. It's annoying to have to filter which ones I'm looking at. Hope this changes soon. Hope there aren't enough other issues with this program that they don't get around to fixing this, especially since it seems this was not a problem in the last beta. -

(Pierre_von_Kaenel) Mar 22, 2007 3:36 AM (in response to jrsforums)>"I put my "websized" photos in subfolders of my edited files"
Are you saying that from some original image you create a "websized" photo, export it and reimport it into LR? Or are these virtual copies? -
24. Re: Select folder without subfolders
(Michael_Krenov) Mar 22, 2007 5:31 AM (in response to jrsforums)I want to add my vote for adding (or rather restoring) the option to see a folder without the subfolders. Do it like in iView MediaPro, will be just fine.
