1. Re: nice basic explanation of curves vs. levels
(Maurice_Cass) Jan 21, 2006 9:40 AM (in response to Barbara B.)Barbara,
Interesting article, would like to try it, but PSE4 doesn't support
curves. Think I'll go to my feeling sad box and have a little cry!

Terri_F Jan 21, 2006 10:36 AM (in response to Barbara B.)I stumbled on this site a few days ago. The site includes some Quicktime tutorials showing steps to correct images using levels, curves, selective color, hue/saturation, etc.

Barbara B. Jan 21, 2006 10:38 AM (in response to Barbara B.)Hi, Terri. Yes, there's some good stuff on that site, but I personally don't really care for the fact that so much of it is only identified by date and you have to download it to find out what's it's about. Some nice tutorials, though. -

Terri_F Jan 21, 2006 10:42 AM (in response to Barbara B.)Barbara,
Oh, I whole heartedly agree with that statement. I haven't had a look at any of the pod casts as I'm on dial-up. Anything from the site worth waiting a few hours to see?

5. Re: nice basic explanation of curves vs. levels
Barbara B. Jan 21, 2006 10:52 AM (in response to Barbara B.)Well, yes, but I think you're probably already aware of most of it, Terri. Well presented, though, and easy to follow. He's very clever at getting a lot of different techniques in one tutorial. -
6. Re: nice basic explanation of curves vs. levels
Terri_F Jan 21, 2006 11:03 AM (in response to Barbara B.)I guess I'll heat up iTunes and download the podcasts...
I've got to admit that I had never figured out how to use Selective color prior to seeing his Quicktime tutorials. Now, I've got that down and wondering why I never understood before...lol.

7. Re: nice basic explanation of curves vs. levels
(Daviskw) Jan 21, 2006 3:33 PM (in response to Barbara B.)Hello Barbara I have purchased your Missing Manual and found it one of the best.. thank you
Some people are suggesting that when using curves add-on with PE3 that it is best to use more than one curves adjustment. Making small adjustments on each curves until you reach your target. That way if you need to change later on you do not have to start completely over because you cannot edit in Elements. Also they suggest that multiple small adjustments will change fewer levels that are ok to begin with.
Do you think this is necessary?

8. Re: nice basic explanation of curves vs. levels
Barbara B. Jan 21, 2006 3:35 PM (in response to Barbara B.)Hi, Butch. Well, there are a lot of different ways to approach most problems in PS/PE, and that's certainly valid. I myself tend to prefer to use one curves layer and maybe change the mode if necessary and then recreate it if I need to change it later, but it depends to some extent on the image you're working on, too.
