          After downloading and applying the patch, I noticed in the log files that it also apparently addresses problems with the Help Center.

            My versions of AI and PS have been compromised by something very like what this security advisory talks about. I have downloaded 3 patches, ran them and the problem remains. PS and AI will not open or create new files. The Windows file extension has been changed and this has happened across my peer to peer network of 4 machines.

            Does anyone have more word of this or how it is spreading. My problems began Sunday, Feb, 12 4:30 PM PST immediately after I allowed an Adobe update for Acrobat. I have the XP or Norton firewalls on all machines and am behind a router. Sounds like this got invited in.

            Without a fix, even with uninstalling and reinstalling the entire suite, I cannot use PS or AI. Somebody must have a big gripe against Adobe. Since it has screwed with and corrupted system issues (file extensions) I see no alternative but to reformat the all 4 computers??? Should the patch retroactively fix the issue with Windows file extensions? Is the patch only good to protect you from it but does not help once you have it?

            And did I mention that I had a very hot press job that should have been in today?

                Reading the Adobe info on this, it seems that it only affects shared/multi user systems.

                Should users of non networked, standalone systems install the update?

                  If you are connected to the 'Net, you're networked. I'd install it...

                  If it isn't connected, and you are the sole user, with a single User Account, then there's probably no reason to do so.

                    Hi Len

                    I take your point about the 'Net being a network but if you are behind a double layered firewall (hardware and software) and have no shares on the hard drive(s)and therefore as such the system is single user is the patcher still required?

                    Would be good if Adobe support called by here and expanded on the risk issues.

                          Let's put it this way. I have seen NO postings on any forum even hinting
                          at any problem whatsoever associated with applying the Security Patch.

                          Additionally, as I'm sure that it will be built in to future versions, I
                          can see no reason whatsoever for NOT installing it.

                            Just went from PS7 to CS2

                            Did download and install some updates using adobe updater, but don't
                            know if the patch was one of them.

                            Are there any particular files and versions I can check to determine
                            if I have the patch or not?

                              The updater should not be relied upon. Go to the Adobe downloads page and download all updates manually.

                                I did that! What I'm trying to find out is if there are any particular files and version #s I can check for , to see if in-fact
                                it may already be installed......Izzy

                                  The updater doesn't work for me. Our company firewall is restricting it from connecting and when I tried to download the updates manually I couldn't get them that way either. I've heard that there is an alternative FTP but I can't seem to find that anywhere. This is truly becoming an extremely frustrating experience!

                                      HOLY...! 8o There are so many of them! Do I HAVE TO download and install all of those to have the latest version? That's a lot of links!

                                        You only need the ones for the application you need to update, and the language you run.

                                          Downloaded this update now CS3 hangs when opening. Problem started right then. Seems to hang when "reading the system profiles". anyone else having issues - I tried system roll back but it didn't resolve.

                                            Did you notice that the update (from Feb 2006!) was for CS2, not CS3?

                                                Help--->Updates...

                                                Let it run, then click on the "Preferences" button in the little window that appears after the Adobe Updater has run and disable it by unchecking the box at the top.
