    Maximized Window View Bug?

    bpylant Community Member
Or perhaps this is behavior I've just not noticed before?

      Photoshop CS3 10.0.1
      Windows Vista

Open two images that are large enough to not fit on your monitor at 100% view.

Maximize both windows. (Do not use F to change to Fullscreen, just maximize the windows.)

      Set both to 100% (CTRL-ALT-0)

Use the hand tool to move to another position in the first image. Make sure that Scroll All Windows is NOT turned on.

Switch to the second image. At this point you can use the hand tool to move around, or not. It doesn't seem to affect the outcome.

Switch back to the first image. Notice that it is now not viewing the same portion of the image as you set it to before you switched. I would expect the view to remain the same, there is no reason for Photoshop to reposition the image in the window just because I switched to a different document.

Note that if I perform the same steps, but in either of the two Fullscreen modes, the view position remains as I left it.

Additionally, if I run this test in Fullscreen mode and then switch back to Maximized, sometimes the windows will behave as they did in Fullscreen mode (i.e. not repositioning), but sometimes they go back to the odd behavior.

By any chance do you have 2 monitors? On my setup Bridge has the strange property of having multiple layers beneath in when in maximize mode, so the preview is not viable until you get to the bottom layer.

            Hi Curt-

No, just a single monitor here.

              Brian,

              Annoying, isn't it?

See my post on the subject (March 9th) for a few workarounds that I noticed, as well as some links to other's posts about this issue. (Not a single response to my post, so apparently not too many are as miffed by this.)

Extremely annoying, I agree. Have you filed a bug report on this?

While this is a PhotoShop forum a similar bug occurs in Bridge for some users, perhaps it is related to 2 monitors or certain graphics cards. For these users with the window in maximized mode there is no preview image. If you pull back the border between preview and the next pane it appears that there are dozens on Bridge windows below it. The preview image only appears when you get to the last layer. If you "restore down" and enlarge window to full screen the program behaves normally.

The two bugs may be related.

Perhaps... I am not using two monitors, although this card (NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS) does support that.

                      >this card (NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS)

Supporting is one thing... supporting WELL is another

My previous computer had nVidia card (3+ years ago, can't remember the model) and for everything to work, I had to use a specific version number of their driver software... which was NOT the newest driver at that time

Video card vendors are constantly issuing device drivers with new or fixed features... and sometimes, a newer version breaks something that worked in an earlier version

You may need to download several software versions, and install and test to find one that works on YOUR computer with YOUR software

Oh, trust me I know all about video drivers and graphics apps... 15+ years of professional graphics work on Windows has taught me more than I ever wanted to know about that subject.
                        :o(

This one works exceptionally well across the board. I'm not convinced it has anything to do with this Photoshop window issue, this behavior is not at all typical of the types of issues frequently caused by video driver problems. I mentioned it only in response to those other posts.
