Been there done that. I'm looking for first-hand experience with specific drives.

JSS1138 Dec 26, 2007 5:46 PM (in response to lchapman66)I use the 150GB Raptor. It's about as good as you'll get for the purpose without being overkill. -

It's 3+ years old and the newer large data drives I've added
are significantly faster (real tests, not specs).

6. Re: Looking for a new boot drive.
shooternz Dec 26, 2007 8:41 PM (in response to lchapman66)They are faster because they need to be. The Boot drive doesnt really need to be as fast as them in an NLE but...
change the OS /boot drive to any good brand ESATA (Seagate or Western Digital etc) and use the old one as a backup for security (should you need it). -
7. Re: Looking for a new boot drive.
lchapman66 Dec 27, 2007 7:02 PM (in response to lchapman66)Just replaced the 80Gb WD drive with a new Seagate SATA/300 320Gb w/16Mb cache. R/W speed (tested with HDTune) went from 56MB/Sec to 77Mb/sec.
Noticeably faster boots. No other testing done yet . . .
Thanks for the advice.
BTW, the Seagate drive was on sale at Best Buy for $60!

(Christopher_Glaeser) Dec 27, 2007 7:07 PM (in response to lchapman66)FWIW, I lost two Raptors to failures in the last 12 months.
Best,
Christopher
