1. Re: Best way to rip personal DVD into premiere/encore?
Steven L. Gotz Jul 15, 2008 9:26 AM (in response to h2ofun)I would try renaming the VOB files to MPG files and take them directly into Encore. -

Dan Isaacs Jul 15, 2008 9:26 AM (in response to h2ofun)So I understand, you don't need to edit them -- just "combine" them? Will they all fit on one DVD without recompression? -
3. Re: Best way to rip personal DVD into premiere/encore?
h2ofun Jul 15, 2008 9:49 AM (in response to h2ofun)The boss called me this morning and said at the county fair she works at, they have folks entering DVD's they have made for awards. They would like me to combine them all onto a single DVD so they can play them all from the same disc. (It might be more than one depending on the sizes). So if I can get the mv2/ac3 files (or a guess an mpeg), I can use encore to make a nice menu driven, looped DVD.
So Steven, are saying I can just rename the VOB's to MPG and import them into an Encore project?
Thanks

4. Re: Best way to rip personal DVD into premiere/encore?
Dan Isaacs Jul 15, 2008 9:57 AM (in response to h2ofun)Try DGIndex.
1.) Select "File/Open" to open your .VOB segments in order.
2.) In the Audio menu, set Output Method to "Demux Tracks" to get the AC3 audio, or "Decode AC3 Track to WAV".
3.) Choose "File/Save Project and Demux Video".
This will results in an .m2v and .ac3 (or .wav) file for the .VOB set that you can import into Encore. The DGIndex "project file" (.d2v) can be ignored or deleted afterwards.
Select "Do not transcode" in Encore. Obviously this may limit the amount of material you can fit on one disc, but it will maintain the original quality.
You could also use dual layer DVDs (DVD9) to cut down on the number of discs. Or -- author it and create a DVD9 folder from Encore, then use DVDShrink to fit it on a DVD5 -- faster than re-encoding in Encore. -

(Rick_Powell) Jul 15, 2008 3:16 PM (in response to h2ofun)I have been using a program called DVDRipper from www.imtoo.com. I have used this program to rip to avi files that I then can import into Premiere and then do whatever.

JSS1138 Jul 15, 2008 6:02 PM (in response to h2ofun)I bet Nero makes software that would be a better choice than Premiere/Encore.
