2. Re: PremiereCS3 won't start when firewire drive is removed
Tayedrummer Nov 11, 2008 10:02 AM (in response to Tayedrummer)My system:
XP Media Center SP3
Intel E6850 @ 3Ghz
4GB RAM
Nvidia 8800GTX 1Gb VRAM
System Drive: 500Gb eSATA RAID-0
Media drive: 1Tb eSATA
Adobe Premiere CS3
Firewire chain
Lacie Big Triple
|
Plextor PX-750UF
|
Sony DSR-11
I have removed the Lacie drive and the Plextor DVD burner so the only firewire device connected to the system is the DSR-11 but now Premiere just closes after the start up screen. Nothing else was done to the system. -

4. Re: PremiereCS3 won't start when firewire drive is removed
Tayedrummer Nov 11, 2008 12:30 PM (in response to Tayedrummer)Thanks for the reply but adding a .old extenstion and trying to start Premiere (after a complete system reboot) did not get Premiere to stop closing after the loading screen.
Any other suggestions? -
5. Re: PremiereCS3 won't start when firewire drive is removed
JSS1138 Nov 11, 2008 2:16 PM (in response to Tayedrummer)>System Drive: 500Gb eSATA RAID-0
That's of some concern. How do you install Windows on an external drive? And definitely do not make your System or project drive a RAID 0. -
6. Re: PremiereCS3 won't start when firewire drive is removed
Tayedrummer Nov 11, 2008 2:54 PM (in response to Tayedrummer)D'oh! Good catch. When I said eSATA I meant SATA. All drives are internal with the exception of the Lacie firewire drive. -

9. Re: PremiereCS3 won't start when firewire drive is removed
SFL46 Nov 13, 2008 7:25 PM (in response to Tayedrummer)Look for a directory named "Media Cache" This folder will contain sub folders for each drive that was accessed at any time during work on a project. See if your firewire drive is listed. If it is, it could be PPCS3 is crashing because it can't access the device.
There is an adobe knowledgebase document that gives directions similar to renaming your preference file--the problem is that there are other preference files besides the one identified in the earlier post. I don't remember all the details, but in the //doc & settings/username/mydocuments/adobe/premiere/3.0 folder--you need to also rename the "layout" folder and the "Styles" folder--they willbe recreated. Also, rename the //doc & settings/username/application data/premiere pro/3.0 folder to be "old 3.0" Premiere will recreate the subfolders below this which contain additional preference files.
Please find the original knowledgebase article to ensure my memory was correct on this. (To give you this info, I looked for the renamed folders on my system.)
