1. Re: Sb not displaying waveforms when dynamic linked to PR...
joshtownsend Jan 1, 2009 7:38 PM (in response to fuaho)I'm really confused with the whole multitrack thing in Soundbooth. Seems all it is good for is combining multiple files that you can change over again. I don't see how this is useful at all when editing with an NLE. Once the tracks are in there they are stuck and can't be movied if you tweak any tracks.
Like you I don't understand the point of the new soundbooth multitrack file at all. Seems like they stuck it in so that there would be a new feature for CS4.
If you could open an OMF exported by premiere and work like that dynamic linked that would be great. Maybe someone can suprise us with an actual real world use.
Since the update I use Audition anyway. Awesome music app. -

Curt Wrigley Jan 1, 2009 9:23 PM (in response to fuaho)This is a WAD. (Working as designed). Sometimes wads are hard to swallow.
Dl via soundbooth is unique and doesnt work as you may expect. As you discovered it really just allows you to link to a Pr Seq to use it to sync with a multi track project in SB. The Pr audio does not display when dynamically linked to SB (which is a strange design, I will agree)

3. Re: Sb not displaying waveforms when dynamic linked to PR...
fuaho Jan 2, 2009 10:33 AM (in response to fuaho)Found this in Using After Effects CS4, p. 45:
The resulting VIDEO PREVIEWS provide helpful visual references for audio edits."
So it's apparent that Dynamic Linking to Soundbooth has NOTHING WHATSOEVER TO DO WITH THE AUDIO FROM THE PREMIERE PROJECT.
The demo goes to lengths to show how you can match your Soundbooth levels to a reference clip and there is a Normalize effect (MISSING FROM PREMIERE!!) available but there is NO DYNAMIC LINKING TO THE PREMIERE PROJECT AUDIO.
The only way to use the project audio is to export each individual audio file and then import it into Soundbooth.
Doh! namic Link = BumWAD -
4. Re: Sb not displaying waveforms when dynamic linked to PR...
joshtownsend Jan 5, 2009 9:44 AM (in response to fuaho)Premiere cs4 does has a normalize master audio. It's not an effect, it's in the top menu Sequence - Normalize Master Track (right above zoom in and zoom out) -
5. Re: Sb not displaying waveforms when dynamic linked to PR...
ECS_1 Jan 29, 2009 8:00 AM (in response to fuaho)I am getting a similar problem. I use a compressor filter in Soundbooth to bring some narration audio down to legal audio levels.
I did exactly the same thing using CS3, and the replacement file fitted snugly into the timeline. It does the same in CS4 but the waveform is not visible. I need it to be visible.
When I close down Premiere and open it again, the waveform is visible, so no great drama, but clearly a bug to be fixed ...

6. Re: Sb not displaying waveforms when dynamic linked to PR...
don solomon Feb 17, 2009 8:14 AM (in response to fuaho)My main interest in trying Premiere is its dynamic linking with other CS4 apps. Works fine with AE. Terrible with SB. For one thing, when in SB I get a ghosted DL until I open a new multitrack--not an existing one. On the other hand, from with Premiere Pro, I can edit audio on a Render and replace choice in SB. But, of course, there is no DL direct link to SB.
Ahh, now I get it, my confusion, that is. I had been expecting the dynamic link to be to Premiere itself. All it really does is allow the import of an Adobe Sequence as a file--not from the Premiere TL. Unless I am missing something, that is really stretching the term DL! -

don solomon Feb 17, 2009 9:18 AM (in response to fuaho)Ed,Anyone
Can you elaborate on How you get the waveform to show in SB? Simply closing dowm premiere and opening it again does not work for me. the waveform is just not there. What am I missing? -

AC-C12-SS Apr 29, 2009 11:20 AM (in response to don solomon)I am having a similar problem in Premiere CS4 my waveforms just are not visible in the timeline sometimes. I can hear the audio but it is not visual in the timeline. Does anyone know how to get it back?

Harm Millaard Apr 29, 2009 11:31 AM (in response to AC-C12-SS)My guess is that the format is causing this behaviour. Either not DV AVI type2 or WAV, but some esoteric format, like DivX, XVid, or other unsuited for editing material.

Thrill Media Apr 29, 2009 3:00 PM (in response to fuaho)I would also be curious to hear if this is 32 or 64bit OS and which video card you are using?

AC-C12-SS Apr 30, 2009 9:06 AM (in response to Thrill Media)I am using Windows Vista Business with 8GB (RAM) and a 64-bit Operating System. I believe the video card is a NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600. The file is a standard avi file.

14. Re: Sb not displaying waveforms when dynamic linked to PR...
Curt Wrigley Apr 30, 2009 9:26 AM (in response to AC-C12-SS)As I explained in Post #2. A DLed seq from Pr to SB does not display the audio waveform in SB. Nothing is broken; thats how its designed. The purpose of this function is to allow you to build a multitrack soundtrack in Sb with the video as a reference. I agree it should show the video's audio trak; but it doesnt.
