I have been using Premiere Pro CS4 and is working fine for me. What exactly are you doing and could you mentione the exact steps when you get the error message ?

2. Re: Cannot encode video in Media Encoder: "PProHeadless.exe has caused an error ..."
(kev99sl) Nov 4, 2008 8:01 AM (in response to (kev99sl))I got tired of messing around with it and uninstalled/reinstalled everything -- after a thorough scrubbing and several registry cleanings and reboots -- it's working flawlessly.
I had created a sequence in Premiere, and was preparing to render it out as a DVD compliant MPEG2 file. When the Media Encoder launched, and I started the queue, I would immediately get an error: "PProHeadless.exe has caused an error and needs to quit" -- or whatever the standard Windows verbiage is. The Encoder would stay open, but just sit for a minute or so before throwing the Dynamic Link error. -

fuaho Nov 5, 2008 11:01 AM (in response to (kev99sl))@kev99sl:
I've found that if AME crashes during a session, my computer will not shut down.
First I get a message that Capture Font is waiting for a response. I closed that with End Now, but the computer still would not shut down.
Last night, I took a quick look at the Processes running in the Task Manager and saw that file PProHeadless.exe that you are talking about listed. I terminated it and was then able to effectuate a normal shut down procedure.
I don't know if this is useful information, but thought I'd pass it along.

somehow it had to do with the graphics system.
hope it helps! -
6. Re: Cannot encode video in Media Encoder: "PProHeadless.exe has caused an error ..."
(Charles_Brouwers) Nov 9, 2008 10:24 AM (in response to (kev99sl))I also get this error frequently during encoding with Media Encoder CS4. It is very frustrating because it usually occurs in the last minute of the encoding process. I run Vista Ultimate with the latest updates. -
7. Re: Cannot encode video in Media Encoder: "PProHeadless.exe has caused an error ..."
(Charles_Brouwers) Nov 9, 2008 5:29 PM (in response to (kev99sl))Actually, it is very strange. If you have the error and just stop PProHeadless.exe, the encoding process restarts after a couple of minutes and continues to completion. -
8. Re: Cannot encode video in Media Encoder: "PProHeadless.exe has caused an error ..."
(Shane_McNeill) Nov 24, 2008 6:44 AM (in response to (kev99sl))Agreed. I've used CS4 for about a week and have seen the error several times. Doesn't make sense. Fortunately, in my case, I haven't had a big issue with it until a few minutes ago. I set about 30 files to render (I love this queue thing) and it apparently came up on the 12th. Well, I "Ok'd" the error and it started right back where it left off. The problem is that these files should've been done and now I'm going to have to wait about 4 hours before I can proceed.
It just finished rendering the 12th file so no telling what the deal is. -

(dreamworks2050) Dec 31, 2008 8:14 AM (in response to (kev99sl))Hi,
I think this problem is related to the graphics system area
try to install the latest card drivers, the latest directX files, and anything you can think for graphics systems,
i had this problem, and even reinstalled the whole system!!! and after reinstalling everything back, it happened the same!!!!
then i remembered i hadnt installed Direct X, and when i did, this Bug happened no more.
i usually always install also a codeck pack, like ZOOM player.
dont know if this helped or not.
but try installing stuff related to the graphics card.
Greetings! and happy NEW YEAR to al Adobe Lovers! -
17. Re: Cannot encode video in Media Encoder: "PProHeadless.exe has caused an error ..."
(Ciro) Jan 1, 2009 6:49 AM (in response to (kev99sl))Like most of the other people in this Forum I've experienced the same
PProHeadless.exe failure.
I followed the advice of some of the threads here and uninstalled most of my Adobe products barring Acrobat and updated to the latest DirectX and .netframework. I then searched through all registry entries and folders to eliminate anything that was lurking in the back ground pertaining to Premiere CS4, After Effects CS3 or Photoshop CS3.
I then reinstalled Premiere CS4 and got to the stage of rendering when, again, the dreaded PProHeadless.exe failure reared its ugly head.
I didn't think to open up Media Encoder before uninstalling all my other Adobe programs to see if it worked independently of the editing suite. I tried it and it does work on its own. I dragged/added an unedited DV file and then went to render as an Mpeg2 and all was fine. I even dragged an AVCHD file and converted that to Mpeg 2.
So, the question is . . . what can be done to fix PProHeadless.exe (I assume it is that)which is seemingly causing the breakdown between Premiere CS4 sending the data to Media Encoder?
The fact that it is working on some people's Computers means that something else is either needed or is impacting the system in order for it to work . . . but what? Any cogent answers please? -

19. Re: Cannot encode video in Media Encoder: "PProHeadless.exe has caused an error ..."
(Ciro) Jan 4, 2009 7:31 AM (in response to (kev99sl))Hiya,
I have, fingers crossed, seemingly fixed this problem.
In the Windows' Error report I clicked the 'details' button and found that it pointed to - nvoglnt.dll, which, after some 'googling' pointed to Nvidia graphics drivers. I downloaded a nvoglnt.dll file, and replaced the one I had in Windows\system32. The one I had originally was just over 3 megs and the one I replaced it with just over 300 kilobytes. I loaded Premiere and waited with baited breath whilst Media Encoder loaded. No warnings came up and I rendered the sequence successfully. Hoorah!! I also opened Media Importer on its own and imported a sequence and voila, it, too, rendered.
I would probably guess that any others who have the same problem may be able to do the same thing and replace/update whatever file the Error report points to albeit may not be just Nvidia.
Whether this is the only cure would be a matter of having a totally 'clean' computer and adding and testing one thing at a time starting off with the updated file in the Windows' Error report. I would suspect that you wouldn't have to update anything else, though, having the latest DirectX or .netfamework or any other media enhancer can only be beneficial. Hope this a helps as a better explanation to the solution of how to fix the PProheadless.exe problem.
regards

20. Re: Cannot encode video in Media Encoder: "PProHeadless.exe has caused an error ..."
(Paul_Budline) Jan 12, 2009 4:42 AM (in response to (kev99sl))There must be some other solution to this vexing problem, which is happening every time I try to encode on CS4 (CS3's encoder works' great, but I can not open this CS4 timeline in CS3, I presume.)
I do not have an NVIDIA graphics card (ATI), so the problem can't be resolved with Ciro's suggested fix. And, unlike another poster, when the PproHeadless.exe error appears, closing it does not re-start the encoding process.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Comprehensive list of third-party plug-ins you installed - None
Exact text of any error messages - "PProHeadless.exe has stopped working / A problem caused the problem to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
Explain clearly what you want to do, what you are doing and what the result is - I would like to export a five and a half minute sequence to an MPEG2 - DVD clip. I go through Premiere Pro CS4 and tell it to export in that format (I've tried both internal hard drives and an external hard drive as export locations), Adobe Media Encoder 4.0.1.078 opens and pauses before the error message appears. The sequence's status is then "Waiting", but nothing else happens when I click "Start Queue" with the exception of the same error message appearing. This is my first time trying to export a sequence using CS4, but I've done it many times successfully with CS3 and FCP 6. I've tried reinstalling CS4 and I updated all drivers only a few weeks ago.
Also, the one video clip I'm using as my source-video is a 13GB+ file. It was never broken into shorter segments. -

(studio_villette) Mar 12, 2009 2:54 AM (in response to (kev99sl))Hi,
To solve this bug:
PProHeadless increases its buffers memory up to the limit of the ram and stops the export in AME.
Just select in PPro: edition >preference > general>
optimize the render = MEMORY
(sorry if the text is not exatly the same of the english version but I use the french version...)
I also inscrease the asio memory buffer to 4096 and selected "32 bit" to avoid the "jkl" bug...

33. Re: Cannot encode video in Media Encoder: "PProHeadless.exe has caused an error ..."
nov2009 Nov 12, 2009 9:07 PM (in response to (kev99sl))I faced the same problem of PProHeadless crashing. I reinstalled Adobe Premiere Pro in its default location which is C:\Program Files\Adobe and it started working fine. I dont know the reason behind this but it just works.
This problem may also happen if your system configuration is not good enough to run Adobe Premiere Pro.
