Is it possible to password protect in Adobe Reader (free version) or do you have to upgrade to do so??? If it is possible, how would I go about password protecting a document so that you would have to have a password to open the file? Thanks!
And the password can be easily overcome with both paid for and freely
available tools. If you really need protection, you need to consider a
DRM solution.
If you make it available for viewing, then they can download and/or save
as. You cannot stop that. Additionally, password protection gives you a
false sense of security. Password protection is too easily bypassed. DRM
is the only viable soution if you truly want to protect the document.
I'd like to know how to password protect a confidential PDF document saved with Adobe Reader 8. I don't see any instructions on any of the comments. Would really appreciate any help.
One way around it is to insert the PDF into a Word document and then password protect the Word document
To insert the PDF into Word:
In Word, go to the Insert menu and press Object
Click on the Create From File tab
Click on Browse and select the PDF file you want to protect
Click on OK to close the Object window
The PDF document is displayed in Word and if you double-click on the page it will open it in Adobe.
To password protect the Word file:
Go to the File menu and press Save As
Click on Tools at the top right-hand corner of the Save As Window and press Security Options
Enter the password and click OK, you will be asked to re-enter the password
Then press Save
You can delete the original PDF if you wish as it now exists in the Word document.
When I converted a 5 page PDF file to Word, only the first page came over. How do you get all 5 pages to come over to word so you can protect the whole document? Thanks!
