    Interactive content query

    Community Member
Can DVD menus be made to play back different video sections depending on the previous behaviour of the user?
For instance could I design an interactive 'game' where pressing the 'open door' option would lead to a different clip depending on whether the user had previously chose to 'take the key' earlier in the film.
Hope I made myself clear. Happy to clarify.
I am designing an educational DVD resource.

It can be done, but probably not with Encore. If the branching you want to do is not more than one-level deep (sort of like an either/or situation) then you can devise a scheme using overrides in Encore. If the branching is more complex than that, then you'll need another authoring program.

DVDLab Pro 2 has features that will allow you to do what you want.

Be warned, though. Even in DVDLP2, it's not point-and-click easy. You will need to learn how a DVD is programmed, to include its internal structure and programming commands.

And if you do try to use overrides in Encore, be careful with that as well. Improper use of overrides will seriously mess up your disc navigation.

Thanks for your reply. I've now gotten hold of a book and found out all about General Parameter Registers, and a whole world of complex stuff. The upshot of it is that (as you said Jeff) I can do it, but not with Encore.
