transcoding uncompressed avi does not work

    McMaster05 Community Member
Can anyone else confirm that transcoding an uncompressed avi fails with encore?
When I try to transcode one encore hangs at Importing. Is this a bug? I'm having this issue on a 64-bit xp machine, so maybe it is 64-bit related...

Well, Encore (even version 3) is not certified for 64 bit, so that could be the problem

Works fine here, but I am not trying to run it on an OS it is not certified to work on.

OK, then it is a 64-bit problem.
Well, as our other applications get developed further we can't stay back in time with outdated soft- and hardware just to wait for adobes development-team...

                WHAT other software & hardware?
Just about all there is available in 64-bit right now are office type applications, and a very, very few audio ones.
I cannot honestly think of a single 64 bit DVD authoring application, and Apple do not even have a 64-bit OS yet.
64 bit is not now, it is in the future, somewhat like HD.

I would bet that the hardware you were typing this is 64-bit already... Its hard to find a new computer these days that isn't.
All scince athlon 64 and all coreduos are...

We work in 3D-Animation mainly and all the progs there are 64-bit already and this brings a huge performance boost in all areas.
It seems like only adobe-apps can afford to sit there and render your transcoding on one core while the otheres sit there and do nothing.

If it would be more easy to install part of the adobe set on one pc, other stuff on a nother one it would be more easy to reserve one old fashioned 32-bit-machine, but as it doesn't make scence at all to have photoshop on another machine than 3ds-max you also have to have encore running on that 64-bit-system...

Well, but this starts to get off topic now...

WHat my CPU is capable of, and what the rest of the hardware , Operating systems & software installed can do are 2 completely different things.
The Intel xeon chips in Macs are capable of running at 64 bit, but there is no Apple OS using 64 bit code.
The vast majority of PC are also still - and will remain for the next few years - 32 bit.

And Encore is not qualified for 64 bit operation, so you try it at your own risk - and it is unsupported as well.
You may get lucky & find other users here who also think it is perfectly okay to ignore the system requirements & just do it anyway.
Good Luck - you're going to need it.
BTW - there are no 64 bit DVD-Video authoring applications.
