aljCharlie Aug 13, 2007 10:17 AM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))It's really too bad that there are so many people have this problem and there is no solution from Adobe. I have searched for PGC Error in this forum and there are so many people reportin this problem but all of the threads have no solution. -
6. Re: PGC Internal Software Error!! PLease HElp Emergency!!!
(Samuel_Engelking) Aug 13, 2007 10:51 AM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))So, finally I've found the source of the problem and a workaround!
First the source:
when Encore has to transcode a video it must corrupt the file, because it's the transcoded file that causes the problem, I tried this by importing a transcoded file into Encore 1.5 there it came with the same error.
Now the workaround, ok maybe it isn't quite a workaround but it's a way to go:
What I did was: I built my project new in Encore 1.5, because Encore 2.0 has a problem importing the videos by me, but if you would just import the videos in 1.5 and let 1.5 transcode them so that all of them would fit on a DVD you should be able to import the transcoded files in CS3 and it should work, no guarantee.
Other possibility: try opening your project in encore 2.0 and re import your videos there and let 2.0 do all of the transcoding, that might work too!
But for certain: don't let encore CS3 do all the transcoding!
I'm working with PAL files I don't know if it will be the same by NTSC, but it's worth a try!
If anybody feels like reproducing the bug, here is the way to do it:
Make a project in Encore CS3 and import Videos encoded by premiere as MPG2-DVD (I think: .m2v .wav) and set the transcoding options to automatic, encore should have to transcode the files. Then let encore make the DVD, at some point you should get that nice PGC error! -

Encore does not need to transcode, since in your approach PP has already done that. -
8. Re: PGC Internal Software Error!! PLease HElp Emergency!!!
(Mitch411) Aug 21, 2007 2:01 PM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))I've seen two solutions. First, create a muxed MPEG2 file (video and audio together in the same file) and second, remove the motion menus from the project. People have claimed success doing either one of these.
If your project doesn't have motion menus, try creating a muxed MPEG file. If you've got motion menus, try removing them.
What the heck, you might even try doing both of them. -
9. Re: PGC Internal Software Error!! PLease HElp Emergency!!!
aljCharlie Aug 23, 2007 4:24 AM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))From another thread of this same problem, the main problem is with Encore CS3 transcoding the file. If you can use third party software to transcode or re-encode the file then Encore works fine. The problem lies in Encore transcoding. However with that said, I do not want to purchase another software just for trancoding when Encore was created to have that capability. It's a problem when Adobe claimed that Encore can transcode QTF file when it realy is having issues with any transcoding in Encore CS3. -

(Brian_Moore) Sep 2, 2007 4:45 PM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))I too am getting this error. I have several *.mov files that I have stringed together in Premiere. The sequence finishes with a *.jpg. If I remove the jpeg, the problem goes away. I tried this file as a *.psd and had the same problem. I even created a *.mov out of the jpeg without any luck. Adobe really needs to get on this. -

15. Re: PGC Internal Software Error!! PLease HElp Emergency!!!
(john_t._harris) Sep 14, 2007 12:42 PM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))I just upgraded to the CS3 master suite and am having this same problem trying to make my first DVD with it. I have exported several AVI files from PP CS3, I have motion menus and will probably go back to 1.5 to make this project. It's upsetting that something as basic as creating a DVD is my first major issue considering I have only been using the new software for the past few days. I hope that Adobe will address this problem quickly. If anybody has found a solution and not a simple workaround (like removing motion menus) I would love to hear it. -

Creating a DVD is certainly anything but a "basic" task!!
Even an Abstraction Layer tool that hides all the nuts & bolts from you (like Encore) is still going to be dependant on a certain amount of knowledge of what you are trying to do.
Not being rude, or trying to be demeaning - but In my experience (both personally when I was first learning this and in the forums) 95% of all problems are Pilot Error, and 95% of the remaining 5% are system related.
PGC Internal software error generally means you are trying to do something that is not allowed by the DVD Specification, or else you are trying to feed the compiler (multiplex authoring engine) with something it does not like.
This can be close to anything - file name, path, having gaps in the name of the file can cause problems (I learned a long time ago to
i never
under any circumstances have a space in a filename when using Sonic products, and I believe Encore still uses a Sonic Authorcore).
John, can you please post details of the project, the exact error & your system specs (including Encore build number) -
17. Re: PGC Internal Software Error!! PLease HElp Emergency!!!
aljCharlie Sep 17, 2007 10:10 AM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))I found that as long as you're not using Encore CS3 to transcode your file, it should be fine. I've tried using ProCoder to transcode my Quick Time Reference file and then reimport that back to Encore CS3 and it works just fine. So again, the problem is Encore CS3 transcoding problem. Nothing else I can see causes this problem. -

(Bill_Collet) Feb 5, 2008 6:27 PM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))Yeah, I've had the same dad gummed error. But with an interesting twist!
First several tries was with a video slide show I had put together in Premier CS3. One had a few pics another had several hundred. Didn't matter. I got the same dad gummed PCG error at the end of the timeline!
BUT, I tried a simple short video file from my camcorder and everything worked fine. Encore went and cut the DVD w/o a hitch! Now, I ask you, what the heck is the difference? When Premier generates an mpeg2 file it's a digital video file. It shouldn't matter if there are pictures or video clips on the timeline ..... BUT IT DOES !!!

(Kaj_Rekalw) Feb 12, 2008 11:52 AM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))I'm having the SAME (exact) ERRORS YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT... on another thread I saw some Adobe programmers asking someone to "reproduce" the issue. I finally have done it.. please help me get the message to them to GET THIS RESOLVED!! And hopefully SOON we can all get back to being happy with our home videos!!!!!!!!!
(yes, same error= "internal error %0", slideshow= pics+.mov files+mp3 audio .. 0:2:11:14 long .. referenced time stamp shows NOTHING WRONG .. Encore "check"=NO ERRORS ..)
----------
to Reproduce try this>
1-create project in PPRO CS3 > import files = jpg / mp3 / .mov -!!do not drop anything to timeline yet!! > save the project.
2-drop and arrange on timeline > DO NOT RENDER!!! > save project (this should leave the "red bar" at the top of the timeline)
3-"export to ENCORE" it should fail in the process just after importing to ENCORE as timeline, give the "internal error %0", and completely stop burning the project.
-----------------------
my project is slideshow with .mov+jpg+mp3/ 0:2:11:14/ . I had everything saved and was able to burn a few "test copies". While in a rush I "cleared" an unwanted jpg from timeline and replaced it with another one that I imported. jpg files had same everything (dpi/res). I tried to export to ENCORE and started to get the error (internal erro %0), GUESS WHAT- the time stamp in the error is the end of the jpg i just replaced, so yes I DID NOT RENDER it. I never use the render faeture during project creation, I DO play through the project and I assume this renders it. Anyhow, the issue arises when a project has not been COMPLETELY rendered before the user tries to export to ENCORE (burn the project). The crazy thing about this error - the first step in exporting to ENCORE is RENDER THE PROJECT!! go figure!!
I hope this helps get this issue resolved!!! Thanks Adobe guys!!!

24. Re: PGC Internal Software Error!! PLease HElp Emergency!!!
(Lou_Dechant) Apr 17, 2008 10:10 AM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))Possible fix for users exporting MPEG2-DVD out of After Effects CS3.
I have encountered the same error here, but from compositions exported out of AE CS3, I use AVID for video clip prep and then sequence in After Effects.
The first fix was to insure the file names did not have any spaces, I got that tip here, apparently it is based on the original core architecture of the burn engine coming from Sonic. This fixed my problem yesterday, but it returned this morning.
Next step was to change my render settings in AE, specifically changing the multiplexer to DVD, the default was not DVD and to export audio even if the comp did not have audio. Exporting audio actually made the multiplexer active so I could change it.
I have burned 4 projects in a row now without the dreaded PGC error, but it is still exciting to see the burn dialogue box show write progress instead of letting you know you just wasted another 2 hours.
I only paid US$300.00 to UG this application, unlike others paying over a grand, but I would still have to say it is a major disappointment coming from Adobe. A major bug fix better be in the works.
Even when it is working as advertised I find it to considerably slower than 2.0, especially when importing assets that are already transcoded.
Hope this helps someone!

(Mohammed_El_Sharqawy) Apr 27, 2008 2:19 PM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))well, what Neil Wikes said was the basic solution to the problem, its only changing file names and removing spaces in the file, I agree to your point Wikes I thought it simply like this but didn't attempt to try it, instead I searched the forums.. I experienced other software that had a similar problems like this before ... BUT, using such engine with problems reading spaces in the file name is actually a defect in the software and a limitation using it,, now everytime you have to keep in mind not putting spaces in the file name which is unpleasent to the end users, software making is all related to please user of the software, also any problem from that kind is a problem of the programmer not the end user... Windows 95 reads file names with spaces, also WINWORD v6 did that when installed on windows 95.. which is more than 13 years old software packages... its a defect getting this error for file naming issues.. -
26. Re: PGC Internal Software Error!! PLease HElp Emergency!!!
(jeff_openshaw) May 28, 2008 10:30 AM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))I spent 2 hours with adobe support for the pgc error. The work around is what mitch said. When your in the adobe media encoder window go down to the multiplexer window and click on multiplex instead of none and this should correct it as it did for me. -
27. Re: PGC Internal Software Error!! PLease HElp Emergency!!!
Mythago Jun 17, 2008 9:03 PM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))I, too, encountered this problem. To fix it, I didn't have to multiplex. It was the spacing in the file names that was causing the PGC internal Software Error for me. When I removed the spaces, Encore CS3 correctly created the DVD Image. -

You just made my day Jody!!
I have lost count of the number of times I have warned about asset naming conventions. Encore uses a Sonic Authorcore, and I have another Sonic Authorcore in my DVD-A application - and the compiler there HATES any spaces in file names. The IMPORT dialogues will ignore spaces, but the compiler errors every single time.
All that should EVER be used in filenames is alphanumeric & underscores.
No hyphens, spaces or funny symbols.
Additionally, when replacing assets - NEVER overwrite with the same name. ALWAYS use a new name & reimport. -
29. Re: PGC Internal Software Error!! PLease HElp Emergency!!!
Stan Jones Jun 18, 2008 8:40 AM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))Neil, don't you love it?
Jody, while this is still fresh in your mind, could you add a bit of information...
How many total characters and how many spaces in your file name? Was it only spaces or other forbidden characters? Did you try removing spaces from only the offending file (i.e. the one that reported the pgc error)? or did you remove from all files at once.
Also, if you simply rename one file back to its "spaces" version (and ideally do this in a new version of the project with a simple menu, etc) does it again fail?
I (and I assume many others) routinely include spaces in filenames and they do not result in the pgc error. I believe that a recent pgc error for me may have been due to spaces, and was corrected by shortening the filename and deleting spaces in only that one file. But I can't say for sure, because the project was okay without the one file, and the final resolution occurred with multiple changes. -
30. Re: PGC Internal Software Error!! PLease HElp Emergency!!!
Bill Hunt Jun 21, 2008 11:34 AM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))It would be great if "spaces," or similar ALWAYS threw an error, but that does not seem to be the case. I usually use a common file naming convention from PP: 01 Titles, 02 Liz's First Birthday, 03 Liz & Page Play House, 0x The End, etc. To date, none has failed in Encore. However, if they DID, the spaces would be the first thing that I'd address, just because of this, and similar threads. In the case cited above, there were 44 DVD-5s, using the same naming convention, and all burned perfectly from Encore 2. Same for many other Projects.
@ Stanley, if I do encounter the error, I'll do a character count, as well as get back with experiences of removing (and re-applying) spaces, just as a test, to provide more info. So far, though, so good.
To date, the only error message, that I have ever gotten from Encore was the "file exists," one, and it disappeared, when I just re-did that Project (it was from a "template" Project, that worked for 43 of the 44 DVDs. Why that one messed up, I do not know, but it "fixed" itself on a re-build. Otherwise, 100% stable, provided that I did not commit any errors on MY part.

(Will_Thompson) Jul 4, 2008 8:58 AM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))I had the same error. Renamed and reimported files one at a time, replacing spaces with underscores. The project finally compiled after about 3 tries.

33. Re: PGC Internal Software Error!! PLease HElp Emergency!!!
(Paul_Sharpe) Jul 29, 2008 2:51 PM (in response to (Victor_Boyko))After reading all these posts to see if I could get my PGC problem resolved, I started a new PrPro, redid ALL my work, sent it to Encore, and behold - it worked.
I figure the thing I did wrong, which I will NEVER do again, is to rename and move around my files to make them better organized, and then rely on starting up PrPro or Encore to "find" them and think everything will be OK.
I did this with two projects with the same results.
For now on, once a file is built, it stays and no renaming.
I hope this helps you guys.
Have a good day.
