    "Return to last menu" malfunction.

I'm using "Return to last menu" as the action for Menu Remote
on a timeline. When previewing the DVD in Encore 2.0 and clicking
on the Menu Remote button Encore gives me an "Sorry abnormal condition . ."
error. When I author a DVD from the project and use the real button
on the remote, my DVD player hangs.

      Thoughts? Suggestions?

Did a menu come up before the timeline plays? Return to Last Menu only works if you visited a menu in the same session. Otherwise, it stops the player.

The flow is as follows:<br /><br />   <short timeline (FBI warning)><br />   <main menu><br />       <chapter menu><br />          <click on and play chapter> (playlist with one chapter from main timeline)<br />          <Press Menu on remote while chapter is playing><br /><br />Real DVD player hangs or Encore preview gets the "abnormal condition".<br />I changed the action to "not set", then in the same sequence Encore<br />completely terminates with no warning.

Ah, the joys of a knowledgebase! I fixed the issue.

I found the Adobe article about troubleshooting corrupt projects. In that it mentions not having more than 20 playlists. As it turns out I had done something the hard way and had 24 playlists. I had a single main timeline divided into 24 chapters. My customer wanted each chapter to play by itself then return to the menu. Initially I did that by creating 24 playlists with a single chapter in each. Functionally it worked, but a defect (I assume) in Encore doesn't like that many playlists. With a little investigation (not sure why I didn't see this before) I found you can set end actions on chapter markers. I removed all the playlists, added "return to previous menu" as the end action for the chapter markers and - voila - all is well.
