    Channel mixing?

    Mark Morreau CommunityMVP
This should be really simple to do, but I can't figure it out.
What I want to do is make both channels of the stereo mix the same as the right channel.
In Audition this was effets->amplitude->channel mixer-> both = right.

How can I do this in Soundbooth? Or is there an easy way to do this in Premiere?

      Cheers

          Hi Mark,

Single-channel editing was a feature we were unable to include in version 1.0 of Soundbooth. There are workarounds in both Soundbooth and Premiere Pro to accomplish the task you describe.

In Premiere Pro, you can place the clip on its own audio track and adjust the pan control until the l/r levels match. In Soundbooth, you can split the stereo file into two separate mono files, then adjust the channel you wish to amplify. These can be imported and locked together within Premiere Pro as well.

Neither of these workarounds are optimal solutions, and this feature is high on the priority list for Soundbooth 2.0.

          Thanks,

            Hi Durin,

Thanks for your reply. Good to know that it's a shortcoming of the program, not of my mind.

Since I have Audition 2 from the previous Production Studio it'd be great to be able to configure Premiere CS3 to give you the choice of opening a soundtrack in either Soundbooth or Audition.

            Cheers

              Hi Mark,

Premiere CS3 has an "Edit in Soundbooth" command in the clip context menu, and also has an "Edit Original" feature. If Audition is registered as the default Windows application for WAV files (or whatever format you primarily use in Premiere) selecting "Edit Original" will open the file in Audition instead.

                Durin,

This is rather pointless to change all of your file associations for AVI, MPEG, M2T, WAV, MP2 etc. before starting your edit and then afterwards changing it back to your defaults. I made a feature request which you can see here: http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc49f6e/1

That makes a lot more sense in my opinion.

In Soundbooth how do you split a stereo track into two separate mono tracks without mixing the two together?

I have been looking for this feature for a while and must have missed it. Can you tell me what its called so I can find it in the documentation?

                  Thanks,

                    Hi JR,

In Soundbooth, click File, Export, Channels to Mono Files.

This will create a separate mono file for each channel in your audio file. This works with Stereo or 5.1 files.

As is typical of the way things go, about 10 minutes after my post I found it. But thank you for the reply.

I'm soo glad this is an issue, because for something that's supposed to be easier than Audition--I just spent that last 10 minutes wondering how the heck to FILL LEFT or FILL RIGHT..

I was trying to find the channel mixer in Soundbooth CS5.  Has it been added?
