1. Re: Pre-render (preview) acts crazy and crashes Premiere - QT Bug?
Eddie Lotter Apr 6, 2009 6:35 AM (in response to soom1976)As a test, try nesting the problem sequence in a new empty sequence then export that new sequence using QuickTime. Let us know whether or not that succeeds.
Cheers

2. Re: Pre-render (preview) acts crazy and crashes Premiere - QT Bug?
soom1976 Apr 6, 2009 5:18 PM (in response to Eddie Lotter)Hi Eddie
I've nested the image - nope, it doesn't render also. I've tried nesting other images - they don't render too. It still does render some of the images that are on the main timeline though! I've also tried other QT codecs like Component or None - same thing.
To be clear - it's not the export, it's the pre-render I'm talking about (preview sequence by clicking Enter). The export actually works fine, probably because it's handled by Media Encoder, rather than Premiere...
I've attached screenshots to show it more clearly.
Again - it still renders fine with DV or I-Frame Only compressions, which are fine by me, but it's still a weird bug.

3. Re: Pre-render (preview) acts crazy and crashes Premiere - QT Bug?
Eddie Lotter Apr 7, 2009 7:00 AM (in response to soom1976)That is truly bizarre. If you put the problem image in a new project does it still fail? If you put a different but similar still in the problem area of the timeline does it render? Cheers Eddie

4. Re: Pre-render (preview) acts crazy and crashes Premiere - QT Bug?
Colin Brougham Apr 7, 2009 7:28 AM (in response to soom1976)Does the image that causes the problem have an alpha channel? You could try the Interpret Footage command on the image and set the option to "Ignore Alpha Channel". It could be that DV and MPEG I-frame work because they don't allow for an alpha channel in movie files, whereas QuickTime Animation does--and as far as I'm aware, PPro does not allow for rendering out an alpha channel. This would possibly explain why image doesn't work when it's over "nothing" in the timeline, but will render just fine when it's over a background image. I'm on a PC, so I can't test this--give it a shot.

tclark513 Apr 7, 2009 7:28 AM (in response to Eddie Lotter)Did you try selecting from the menu "render entire work area"?

New Project doesn't help - it just happens to ANY still image no matter what - JPG, TGA, PNG. If I make a new project, or new sequence, set it to QT compression, then put just any still on timeline - it crashes as soon as I click render. for some reason it didn't crash immediately in that particular sequence I'm working on now, but crashed at some point anyway. The funny thing, that image sequences (imported numbered stills) reder just fine. It's only about the still image and the QT Codecs....

No - it doesn't matter - I've tried it with TGA, PNG and JPG (as you know, JPGs cannot have alpha) - it just crashes on any still image, while rendering with any QT Codec...

Yep - same thing.

9. Re: Pre-render (preview) acts crazy and crashes Premiere - QT Bug?
Eddie Lotter Apr 7, 2009 3:02 PM (in response to soom1976)Interesting! Would you mind making one of your test projects available for download?
I will try to reproduce the problem on my own when I get home, but if I can't repro it then a copy of your project may help.
Cheers

I just realised you're on a Mac. I can't create a sequence using QT compression on the Windows platform.
Hopefully someone with a Mac can try to reproduce the problem you describe.
Cheers

EddieYap - I'm a Mac now
Well, I'll stay with the 'I-Frame Only' - works fine to me...
