1. Re: Alternate input for the future of OnLocation
Mark Mapes Apr 8, 2009 1:30 PM (in response to sebrame)We're not at liberty to discuss what features are on the drawing board or in development. I can say, however, that we're well aware of the decline of Firewire and are pursuing a variety of measures to keep OnLocation relevant.
One path that's not much of an option is supporting USB. While many new cameras have USB ports, they do not send live video out that port. USB is not well adapted for such live streaming.

sebrame Apr 8, 2009 1:41 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)Good to hear. I've used it since it was DVRack, and it's been a really big help. I know that at least one model has HDMI out, and certainly there's always composite...at least for scopes and such.

Mark Mapes Apr 8, 2009 1:46 PM (in response to sebrame)I just did a little research on built-in HDMI ports and everything I found was output only. If you know of any laptops with built-in HDMI input, please let us know.

sebrame Apr 8, 2009 2:21 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)Not as yet, but I'm sure that this same question was asked about firewire just a relatively few years ago. I know that Cineform is working on, or has already released a HDMI input module.

sebrame Apr 8, 2009 2:22 PM (in response to sebrame)Point being, if there is a need for HDMI input in a laptop, I'm sure an ExpressCard will soon follow.
