1. Re: SUPER for DV-AVI Conversion...
Bill Hunt Apr 9, 2009 7:32 AM (in response to Kodebuster)Kodebuster,
Unfortunately, I do not use Super, and also cannot comment on the "choppy" nature of the Video, other than to say that with DV-AVI, that should not be happening. The field dominence (often a cause of problems with playback), should be set automatically and correctly.
However, I would urge you to use PCM/WAV 16-bit 48KHz for the Audio and not MP3. If you are going to convert, go for settings that do not have to be manipulated by PE in any way. MP3's will have to be conformed to the above setting by PE, so you will take some of work away from PE and also eliminate any problems later on. The Audio is already compressed in WMV, to a degree, so an additional and very radical compression will not help it in the least.
Good luck with the Video issue and wish I could help,
Hunt

2. Re: SUPER for DV-AVI Conversion...
Kodebuster Apr 9, 2009 7:56 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)Hunt, Thanx for the info on the audio codec for best PE workflow.
Now if I can tackle the choppy video, I'd be in good shape.
BTW, using PE for Frame Blend, and Field Options, didn't help any...

3. Re: SUPER for DV-AVI Conversion...
Paul_LS Apr 9, 2009 9:54 AM (in response to Kodebuster)I thought Super only converted to PAL DV-AVI not NTSC. That is probably your problem.

4. Re: SUPER for DV-AVI Conversion...
Kodebuster Apr 9, 2009 10:08 AM (in response to Paul_LS)Paul, I just started using Super, but I don't think it's PAL specific.
SteveG always recommends, so I think the app is okay for NTSC.
If I take the suspect Mpeg2 and convert to Mpeg1 via Super, the output AV is fine with WinMedia player.
Sooner or later, Steve will see this and (hopefully) chime in...
Thanx...

5. Re: SUPER for DV-AVI Conversion...
Steve Grisetti Apr 9, 2009 11:15 AM (in response to Kodebuster)Are you doing the conversion so that you can edit in Premiere Elements?
My guess would be that you've got an interlacing problem. Is there an option to reverse the field dominance during the conversion?
In the FAQ library to the right of this forum I offer some suggestions for conversion programs.

I used to use MPEG Streamclip for converting MPEGs to AVIs -- but lately I've been getting the best results using, of all things, Premiere Elements 7 itself!

Paul_LS Apr 9, 2009 11:31 AM (in response to Kodebuster)Yes, I looked at the new version and it supports NTSC.

7. Re: SUPER for DV-AVI Conversion...
Steve Grisetti Apr 9, 2009 11:34 AM (in response to Paul_LS)Ouch! You're right, Paul! PAL is the only DV-AVI option!
That would definitely explain the quality issues, if it's being used in an NTSC project.

8. Re: SUPER for DV-AVI Conversion...
Paul_LS Apr 9, 2009 11:41 AM (in response to Steve Grisetti)Actually Steve, I think you can set the frame rate to 29.97fps but the frame size is always 720x576... so the PAL standard.

9. Re: SUPER for DV-AVI Conversion...
Kodebuster Apr 9, 2009 1:57 PM (in response to Paul_LS)Okay, got it.
That explains why the DV-AVI looks weird, and the Mpeg on output looked fine.
Looks like Super remains good for recommendation, except for DV-AVI (unless PAL is the target).
Too bad, the GUI is clean and crisp, and conversion times are super fast...
Thanx...
