We are new to Robohelp8 and have only been using robo7 for about a year.  In testing the webhelp output in rh8, the search results come up in 2 columns and are ranked - YUKK!!  Is there a way to turn off the 2 col format and the default ranking of results?

Also, while I'm here, is there a way to create custom buttons in the nav bar that would search files in a specific directory, instead of all the html files in the project?

We also aren't able to search the pdf files in our project...any thoughts?

Hi there

When you double-click the WebHelp layout in your Single Source Layouts pod, you see a dialog allowing you to click a Next > button to see different options you may set before generating.

On the second screen of the dialog is a setting labeled "Show Context in Search Result".

SearchOpts.png

Perhaps try clearing this setting? (I'm guessing it's currently enabled for you. If it isn't, perhaps try enabling to see if things change.)

Cheers... Rick

Thanks fo much for the prompt response. We have tried that -- that only removes the additional test under the title of the file in column #1. It does not affect at all the linking or that column.

On the PDF search problem, did you include the PDF in baggage files. According to the Reviewers Guide, that is a requirement. Otherwise if the user clicks the search results, they would not be able to see the PDF.

Peter,

You mush ave been up late ( or real early) for this reply.

We had PDF files in the baggage files for all versions, with none of these ever including the PDF files in searches. I just made sure the PDF's were in baggage folder and built new layout. They are not included in search results.

But our main dillema now is trying to creat additional search buttons. We want to have a separate button for each type of file we are including. All the files are HTML format, but one type is minutes, one statute, and the last is policy. We would like to have a button for searching each file type, because a hit list may be 200-400 files long. In playing with the skins editor today we may be able to accomplish this but it apparently requires attaching a javascript to the button.

Sorry, got sidetracked.

I could test the PDF search side of things but it is not really going to help as you have the overriding requirement to have multiple searches and that is not an option with RH. Take a look at Searching on my site where I describe ZoomSearch. Using that you would remove the RH search button and replace it with a button that calls a topic. That topic would have as many buttons or links as you require all pointing to searches that you have filtered as required.

Thanks for the info. I will take a look at ZoomSearch, as it sounds like it might be what we are looking for. But not being a programmer, how do you remove the search button from RH and replace it with something else? I don't see in the layout boxes any mechanism/toggle switch to delete/add stuff?

Thanks so much for the give and take. We haven't been able to discuss program aspects with anyone until now. You might end up regretting the connection...

The Skin Editor will help you remove and add the buttons you want. We implemented ZoomSearch last year, and our customers have loved it.

I am not a programmer. We plan on taking a closer look at ZoomSearch because it might be just what we need. But, how do you delete the RH search button and then add ZoomSearch button?

Thanks for your help.

Hi all

Lest anyone simply read Kutra's reply and take it at face value:

The Skin Editor may certainly be used to Add buttons and configure them to link to pages, it will not facilitate removing the Search. That must occur in the WebHelp options provided by the Single Source Layout. Actually, if you were to add a button in the skin you would likely need to ensure it was later enabled in the same location used to turn off the Search button.

Cheers... Rick
