Kenneth Benson Apr 9, 2009 5:19 PM (in response to CarlBe1)What version? Are you installing from a CD or DVD (that might have gotten scratched)? I had a problem with Illustrator which I downloaded and burned to a CD. The computer didn't like the CD, even though it was the same computer. I burned a new CD and it worked.
Another remote possibility, but easy to test: Make a new user account in Windows and try installing from there.

P Spier Apr 11, 2009 4:21 AM (in response to CarlBe1)DId you run the clean script before trying to reinstall? It sounds like there's some leftover problem from the previous failure.

CarlBe1 Apr 12, 2009 5:20 AM (in response to Kenneth Benson)Hi Kenneth
I am using InDesign CS3 - downloaded from Adobe.
I did try creating another User account - but same problem I´m afraid.
Short of formatting the whole disc - I just don´t know what to do now!!

CarlBe1 Apr 12, 2009 5:24 AM (in response to P Spier)Hi Peter
yes I think that I have - but can you just re-confirm the URL to download the clean script?
I think that you are right - this last time I tried I got the message "The Installer database is corrupt".
I have recently installed other Adobe scripts - just not InDesign!
I have no problems with the Macromedia scripts - just the recent Adobe one´s.
Hope you can help?
Thanks

CarlBe1 Apr 13, 2009 3:26 AM (in response to P Spier)Hi
Regretably NONE of the Adobe CS3 and CS4 scripts work now.
I have uninstalled (although in almost every case I am unable to even uninstall through the standard Windows Control Panel). I have un-installed through a script called "Final Uninstaller".
I tried the CS3 and CS4 Clean ups.
When I download a fresh script from Adobe and attempt to install - I get told that there is a corrupt installation database!
Short of a re-format - what (or is there) else can I do?!!!

sandeecohen Apr 13, 2009 4:51 AM (in response to CarlBe1)Carl,
Did you just download the application from somewhere?
Or did the application come on disks.
Have you ever been able to install CS3 from the disks or files?
It sounds like this is a job for Adobe Customer Support.

P Spier Apr 13, 2009 5:29 AM (in response to CarlBe1)Carl,
When you say none of the scripts work, do you mean the installers, or interanl scripts in InDesign?
I've not personally had to run one of the Adobe cleanup scripts, but I believe you also need to use the Microsoft Installer cleanup utility when you do.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Be sure you read and understand the the techdoc and the consequences of running it. I HAVE used that utility in the past to remove traces of other programs that did not uninstall gracefully, and it was not as scary as it sounds.

CarlBe1 Apr 20, 2009 3:04 AM (in response to P Spier)Hi Peter
Yes - I think that I mean the installers. And I had used the Microsoft Installer cleanup as well.
I have occasionally managed to install Flash CS4 - only to find that as soon as I installed another script (eg Fireworks CS4) - the Flash CS4 program then stops working!!
Same with InDesign CS3 - worked for a year and then suddenly stopped after I had downloaded Flash CS4.
I think its probably a re-format job - but it does appear from my own experiences - and those of others that I have read about, that it is a problem between the new Adobe CS style installs and Vista?
I really wanted to avoid a re-format!!!

P Spier Apr 20, 2009 5:18 AM (in response to CarlBe1)I'm afraid I can't offer much advice about installing on Vista -- I still run XP -- but I do know you should turn off UAC.

12. Re: Cannot install InDesign
tomaso25 Jun 1, 2009 12:45 PM (in response to P Spier)I got the Installer database corrupt error message trying to install Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended Trial version on Windows Vista 64-bit. I tried the clean up script, I tried the Windows Installer clean up tool, I tried regsvr32 JScript.dll, I looked for, but did not find a CAPS folder to delete. Nothing worked. I even tried a System Restore to before I installed any Adobe programs. The solution was: I found a caps.db file in the Adobe Acrobat Backup folder. I deleted that file and it worked. So, please try all of the above before you do something drastic like a re-format.
