Calibrating Input Audio not working

I've tested my both my Logitech microphone and in-computer microphone outside of my Captivate 4, and they both work fine.  However, when I attempt to use them to record audio, Captivate refuses to recognize that they exist.

When I cancel the recording attempt, check my settings, and try again, Captivate completely shuts down.

There was one other discussion forum that appeared to answer this question, but I couldn't access that patch they provided, and the other advice seemed to relate to XP users.

I am working in Windows Vista with Captivate 4 as part of the Technical Communication Suite 2.
