Ok, number 2 is sorted, but the subcategories are barely distinguished from the main categories, which makes it very difficult to see what one is looking for...

But, unless and until some of the major issues are fixed, you—and the rest of us—are just going to have to struggle to live with it.
BUT! There are some band-aids that will help, selflessly created by a couple members of this forum.
First, you'll need to install the GreaseMonkey add-on for Firefox.
Then, you'll need to install a few scripts which will cause many of the impediments on the forums and on the search page to render in ways that are much more user -friendly.
