harry teasley Apr 29, 2009 2:07 PM (in response to harry teasley)I'm also getting the brush palette showing up underneath my canvases, I can't get it to show on top.
Argh, that's my feeling with CS4's display issues.

John Joslin Apr 29, 2009 3:25 PM (in response to harry teasley)The new UI is pretty difficult to live with Harry, but you can live with it with a bit of experimentation.
There are simply too many bloody settings to fiddle with.
If it's really funky, try the good old "reset preferences"!

Chris Cox Apr 29, 2009 3:26 PM (in response to harry teasley)Photoshop doesn't have "skins".
Either you're seeing a drawing problem due to a bad plugin (like the Nik issues), or you have something else on your system messing up application drawing (like a video card driver, or some extension modifying drawing behavior).

Well, inasmuch as I see PS all the time switching between GDI window appearance, and the new white window appearance, it acts like a misbehaving app that has customizable skins. I consistently get bad refreshes, and see elements of both the white appearance and the GDI windows that underlay it all.
I have updated to the latest nvidia drivers, and am running no additional plugins to PS: it's a vanilla install. I have no extensions that modify my display drawing behavior, that I know of. I used to run the Huey Pro software, but don't currently. About the only thing that might be affecting this is my secondary display is my Cintiq, and that's the screen I run PS on.

Much as I respect you, Chris, I find that answer a bit presumptuous. Given the known issues list of CS4, I am compelled to believe that my system is not wholly at issue. I run a wide variety of graphically intense apps for development, and CS4 is the standout in this regard. That's not intended to be a conclusive assumption (that would be foolish). But there are known display issues with CS4, and I'm finding the new UI to have several.

Just when do you see this mixed UI behaviour within Photoshop?
PS itself is only shades of grey for me apart from the highlighted menu areas.

harry teasley Apr 30, 2009 4:34 AM (in response to John Joslin)I see the appearance I am supposed to see, much of the time, but generally when moving from windowed to maximized mode, or the F-key canvas display modes, the UI often redraws incorrectly.

harry teasley Apr 30, 2009 5:51 AM (in response to Per Berntsen)Oh, yes, I get that one constantly. It's one of the reasons that it's apparent to me that there is a standard Windows UI backing up this new appearance, and why I think things might just be better if we could have the option to see that appearance.

John Joslin Apr 30, 2009 6:08 AM (in response to harry teasley)I can't induce my computer to show that effect in Vista 64.
Nevertheless I am constantly cursing this flat and unhelpful interface. It makes Windows look positively beautiful in comparison!
The loss of colour cues and context menus is unforgiveable. How could Nack have heralded this POS with such a fanfare of trumpets?

antonhusz May 7, 2009 5:12 AM (in response to harry teasley)Hello,
Recently everyone at my company upgraded to CS4 and we all have the same problem with the flickering display settings as indicated by the above screen capture. This is very problematic for us since the UI does seem to work LESS well than in CS2. As for the bad systems that is unlikely. Most of us have brand new intel quad core machines running XP pro with 4 gigs of ram each. Our video cards are all beefy (mine is ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series) and our drivers are updated constantly and consistantly by our IT department. All of the the other CS4 products we run are doing just fine (Indesign CS4 and Illustrator CS4). Thus this does appear to be a bug in the Photoshop interface. I personally have not upgraded to cs4 at home since cs3 seems to run way better. If there is a fix to this please let us know we purchased 10+ suites and the only problem we're having is the photoshop UI bugs. Can you please help us!

Zeno Bokor May 7, 2009 5:12 AM (in response to antonhusz)try upgrading Photoshop and the video card drivers to the latest version, if that doesn't help then disable OpenGL Drawing from Edit->Preferences->Performance. If it still doesn't work then try to disable any 3rd party plug-ins that you might have installed
