1. Re: InDesign wants to 'Save As' not 'Save'
Eugene Tyson Apr 30, 2009 6:55 AM (in response to Barb Wentzell)When you go
File>Open
Check the bottom left hand corner that you're not opening a Copy, set it to Normal

2. Re: InDesign wants to 'Save As' not 'Save'
Ozzwoman9 Apr 30, 2009 6:58 AM (in response to Barb Wentzell)Is the file a template? Does it have the extensions .indt? If so then that is the reason why. It needs to be saved as an .indd file in order to override the original upon save.

Barb Wentzell Apr 30, 2009 7:08 AM (in response to Ozzwoman9)Thanks for the replies, but no, the file is not a template and I'm not opening a copy of the file.

6. Re: InDesign wants to 'Save As' not 'Save'
F vd Geest (WA Veghel) Apr 30, 2009 7:31 AM (in response to Barb Wentzell)OK, lets see:
The file can have some wrong permissions for you;
It started life in an older version of InDesign, in this case you have to save once as and then use this saved file from now on;
It uses some Plug-ins that are not on your machine, in this case it will always do a Save as.
Solution:
Export the files as incx (inDesign interchange format, in CS4 called idml)
Open this exported file, save this as a InDesign document.Problem solved.

Barb Wentzell Apr 30, 2009 7:33 AM (in response to P Spier)These are new files created in CS3. They're not locked and they're not Read Only.

9. Re: InDesign wants to 'Save As' not 'Save'
Eugene Tyson Apr 30, 2009 7:43 AM (in response to F vd Geest aka WA Veghel)Just to note
.incx is a incopy document
.inx is a indesign interchange file (it's this one you want to choose)

10. Re: InDesign wants to 'Save As' not 'Save'
Barb Wentzell Apr 30, 2009 7:49 AM (in response to F vd Geest (WA Veghel))Apparently these are files that were first created in CS2. When opened, we get a message about PaigeFIlter.framework plug-in missing. I've copied that plug-in from InDesign CS2 to the CS3 plugins folder, but that doesn't seem to work. From what I've read CS3 doesn't need this plugin. Is there a way to disable it?

Ah, yes, my bad. I'm teaching InCopy as well, sometimes even I get confused with all these extensions ;-)
