Can i remove the (center of gravity)

    on5lb Community Member

      Hello,

I'm not sure, but i think i was able to remove the "center of gravity" from an object made using Illustrator ? Or was it another application !

I remember, in the past...i made an analogical wallclock, using hour, minute ans second hands.

But to have the hands moving correctly, i had te "remove" the center of gravity of each hand at the bottom.

I checked some user guides from Illustrotor CS2 and CS3 but don't find it.

      Maybe i'm wrong ?

Can anyone help me to remind me how to proceed ?

      Thanks in advance,

      Jean

The only thing I can think of that may be remotely what you're describing is the 9 point origin reference when rotating or scaling an object.

Look to the Control Panel when an object is selected. You can click one of the boxes to set the origin to the bottom points rather than the center.9-point.jpg

            Jean,

A simple way to have each hand moving correctly is to:

            1. Create a no stroke, no fill, circle that has the axis as centre and extends at least as far as the tip of arm;

            2. Group the arm and the circle.

This once and for all solution is suitable for repeated rotation at any time, without worries about exact centring.

You can set the center of transformation wherever you want by selecting the object and then clicking with any of the transformation tools (Rotate, Scale, Reflect, Shear) where you want the COT to be. Then perform the transformation.

Sounds like what you want is ruler guides snapped to the centre of the clock face.

Once you've got those it's no problem positioning the hands straight and then rotating them around the place where the guides cross.

                  Hi all of you,

Thanks for your several options, but i will check them and let you know if i succeed !

I hope (as a french speaking person)  my question is clear for every one ?

In fact, when you create an object, it has a center point.

But to be able to rotate a hand on a analogical clock, you must be able to move the center point at the bottom of the hand.

I remember some years ago, (don't remember what aplication it was) but i simply clicked the certer point of the object (hand) and drag it wherever i wanted !

OK, i let you know when it's done.

                  Thanks so far,

                  Jean

on5lb - just read up on the rotate tool, and how you can set the rotation point before doing the rotation, this is a simple operation in illustrator!
