1. Re: Using external controllers on Audition 3
Brian Stew May 11, 2009 6:27 AM (in response to gabainbridge)I am no expert!
However I do think that Mackie uses Host Automation, which is a different protocol and not MIDI at all. Audition can (probably) only listen to Host Automation; it works with my floor unit from Native Intrument which I am positive sends it. This controller signal goes over USB, not a MIDI cable.
There is a dedicated product called 'Tranzport' from Frontier(?), and at least one more with the typical DAW controls in hardware, that works well with Audition. If your mixer can transmit Host Automation (it's not uncommon), then that is what it should be set to.

Ian Samson May 11, 2009 7:16 AM (in response to Brian Stew)I am also no expert! I have an Evolution MK-249C music keyboard that I
attach via USB to "Brutus" (my behemoth PC). All I do is turn up the
speakers and I have a pipe organ in my studio. It's great! Just wish I had a
pipe organ controller to enable me to use all the organ's stops and pedals
in my audio creations. My learning curve has been stretched beyond my
cerebral capacity in that my brain is short on a few TB of RAM (and I think
needs rebooted quite often). It will be nice to have just a pipe organ's
stops as banks on Noteworthy Composer. I only use NWC and MIDI for my organ
pieces, but often bring them into AA3 for massive embellishment, saving them
as WAV or MP3 for later transferral via Bluetooth to the MP3 player in my
cellphone, or CDs for my clients.

3. Re: Using external controllers on Audition 3
gabainbridge May 11, 2009 3:37 PM (in response to Brian Stew)Actually, since that original post I've been experimenting and I have discovered that with the Mackie controller setup, Audition 3 does respond to Midi commands, but strangely the Mackie controller appears to send pitch-bend data to control the faders rather than controller data,
This means that I can't use my mixer to control AA3, but I have discovered that the Behringer BCF2000 controller has a Mackie emulation mode, so that looks like being the answer.
Thanks,
Gary.

alanofoz May 13, 2009 1:04 AM (in response to gabainbridge)I originally used midi mode with my BCF, but in the end I found that the mcso mode and USB connection worked much better with Audition and have stuck with it ever since.
