    Installing demo CS4 conflicting PPRO2.0?

    moonplace Community Member

      Dear users

I like to try out the PPRO CS4 on the same computer I work with PPRO 2.0 + Matrox RTX100 + Audition + .Encore.

But Iam afraid to install CS4 because of the possibility that PPRO 2.0/Audition/Encore conflicts with CS4 and will not work properly anymore after installing CS4.

Reason to hold on 2.0 etc. is that I like to find out if the new CS4 will be of any benefit for my type of work to buy it. And I will not come in the position to have to install al the old ones again if CS4 is not meaningfull for me and the same time all other programms doesnot work anymore properly.

I am not a professional user as can be seen on www.canstagevideo.nl

Maybe anyone can inform me of the risks to install CS 4 on the same computer as te PPRO 2.0  other prograams as mentioned.

      Thanks in advance

          Hi,

Nobody can garantee it will not mess up your system, but there is a big chance it wont.

I went from CS2 to CS4 and never regretted it.

CS4 does not work with the Matrox100, but if you get yourselve a QuadCore or maybe an i7 you wont need Matrox.

I'm with Ann. When CS3 was introduced, many kept PrPro2 on their machines, with no ill effects. When CS4 came out, many kept CS3 on their machines with no ill effects. Do not recall of reading of users who had PrPro2 and also CS4, but many problably did. Since I have yet to read of any problem with that coexistance, I'd *guess* that problems were very rare. Still, no guarantee.

With many Adobe programs, I always keep an older version around on the machine. I've had up to 3 versions of Photoshop on the same computer for various reasons, and never had one problem.

Only issue that I have ever had with any Adobe program, and other Adobe programs, was when I installed Adobe Premiere Elements 4 onto my laptop, which had the full CS2 Production Studio. That install killed Bridge, Photoshop, PrePro2 and Encore 2. I guess that no one at Adobe ever considered that one would install PE4 after an installation of CS2. Luckily, Adobe had a knowledgebase article on this problem (obviously others had encountered this before me). The fix was simple - a Repair Installation of CS2 Production Studio, which took all of about an hour. That fixed it all, and no other problems ever surfaced.

Now, when you test CS4's trial, remember that NOTHING related to MPEG will function. That is a limitation of the trial, due to licensing issues from MainConcept. All MPEG functions will work in the full version. One thing that you can do, if you also have Encore 2 with your CS2 suite, is to Export from the trial, as DV-AVI and Import that file into Encore - no DL, etc., and you will not be able to Import anything MPEG into CS4 trial. Just wanted to point that out.

If you do keep CS2 around (good idea, until ALL Projects are finished and out the door), and do the CS4 trial, please update this thread, so others can benefit from your post.

            Good luck,

I had no issues installing the CS4 trial on my 2.0 production rig.  Both suites worked fine.

                  Jim,

Thanks for the report. I did not recall anyone posting, when they had jumped versions, like the OP wished to do. Good to know.
