1. Re: How do I output greyscale PDFs from InDesign CS3?
Buko. May 21, 2009 11:32 AM (in response to MooseDesign)You don't, but you can convert the exported pdf to grayscale in Acrobat Pro.

Stix Hart May 21, 2009 11:34 AM (in response to MooseDesign)Are you using the dialogue box in Acrobat (forget what it's called sorry, separations preview?) that shows CMYK colours that you can turn on and off? That will always show all the CMYK colours even if they're not in the document. To see if there is anything in CMY just turn K off, if you can't see anything on the page you've got a greyscale PDF.

3. Re: How do I output greyscale PDFs from InDesign CS3?
MooseDesign May 21, 2009 12:04 PM (in response to Stix Hart)Thanks guys, I think that answers my question, albeit in a roundabout way... I have an publisher who is requesting a greyscale PDF, but in Output Preview it shows that there are no inks other than black that are being laid down. So, technically, this is a greyscale PDF and the seps only show black too. I was just wondering if there was a more publisher-friendly way of exporting the file, but I think this may be an end-user issue (not looking closely enough at the file).
Sorry to trouble you, but thanks for the quick responses! Sometimes the echo chamber is itself an answer...
Cheers,

Mr. Met May 21, 2009 12:43 PM (in response to MooseDesign)I print to postscript to grayscale or black seperation and distill. I don't believe you can export to black.

rob day May 21, 2009 1:00 PM (in response to MooseDesign)ID doesn't have a grayscale space so all objects are either RGB, Lab, or CMYK. If you know everything is on the black plate tell your client to output black only. If you are forced to convert to grayscale in Acrobat or via output to Distiller, watch out for unwanted black value changes when you make the conversion.
