Streaming FLV Flash Video on Sony PSP

    xdefconx
      Hye all!
So my situation right is is have to design & develop a mobile web site for PSP browser platform. One part of development is i have to develop/design a streaming video on that web site base on PSP browser support. Since PSP web browser support Flash so i have to deploy a streaming video on Flash platform. I already understand for that i have to deploy a Macromedia Flash Communication Server. Everything is done n working on normal PC base web browser (tested on IE & Mozilla Firefox) where live video streaming smoothly running. However on my PSP web browser didnt work it. Therefor as my knowledge i need to dig more infomation about what kind of Flash version did Sony PSP use it. So can u provide me more infomation or guideline where i can stream a Flash video on PSP web browser succesfully?. Where i can get more details infomation about what kind of version did PSP using it on PSP web browser. What's advantage and disadvantage that Flash plugin on that browser. What a best idea for me when i want to deploy a streaming video using Flash platform.

      Thanxs

PSP flash (version 6) does not support FLV nor can it connect to Flash media server. You can read a basic overview of PSP Flash capabilities from the Adobe PSP developer site.

          http://www.adobe.com/devnet/devices/psp.html

You might also review the PSP browser guidelines which are available from Sony though I do not have the link available. (try a search engine to find this document).

Thanxs for ur fast reply hayden, duh! PSP running on Flash version 6? So that's mean no way for developer to design a streaming/broadcasting video on PSP huhuhuhu.... basically what do you think a best device/mobile hardware that suitable for designer/developer to design a mobile website contains live video streaming/broadcasting? Is that nowadays Flash version still for mobile still a long step leave behind like Flash version for normal PC based browser?

At the moment the standalone version of Flash Lite is more common than the browser implementation. It is hard to know what shape Flash will take for mobile web browser oriented content.

Flash 7 for Pocket PCs (not smart phone OS) supposedly supports FLV but not sure about interaction with Flash communication server or Flash media server. I have not tried either, and support may depend upon the CPU resources of the device. The pocket PC version of Flash 7 runs in Pocket IE as an ActiveX control. So iyou might be able to design the web site for this group of devices.

End users need to manually install Flash ActiveX control on the device, as it does not come preinstalled, and view your web site with MS Pocket Explorer.

An alternative is to support .3gp video for Flash Lite 2.x devices. You can stream .3gp sound and video to most Flash Lite 2.x devices using rtsp protocol. This would probably require a standalone SWF application that end users download and save on the phone for accessing your content over the network, instead of through the browser.

Flash Lite 3.0 will support FLV and interaction with Flash media server.

Hye hayden, thanxs again for ur reply. I think now i discuss with a right person :p i already visited ur web site at http://www.aviarts.com/ . Sound like u also do a software/development Flash base for PSP. Cool! This time i interested with this word:

"An alternative is to support .3gp video for Flash Lite 2.x devices. You can stream .3gp sound and video to most Flash Lite 2.x devices using rtsp protocol. This would probably require a standalone SWF application that end users download and save on the phone for accessing your content over the network, instead of through the browser."

Is that u mean we render a movie/swf with Macromedia Flash as output that suitable for Flash Lite 2.x player? Is that Flash Lite 2.x is have a same capability with Flash ver 6 = Flash version that PSP using it? However on Macromedia Flash Profesional 8 & also Macromedia Flash Communication Server i didnt find how to put that 3GP file unless i have to convert it to FLV file then after that i can use it on that software.

However hayden, i got another question if u dont mind. Since u said Flash 7 on PocketPC supposely support FLV but didnt sure about it, base on ur knowledge n experience is that Adobe will be release a same version of Flash player but maybe not will be same capability in a different platform? Nowadays major OS on PocketPC is Windows Mobile variant right? I already try to search on:

                http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms950423.aspx

I'm searching for a more infomation about what kind of Flash version did Windows Mobile 5.0 using it and also a capability of that mobile browser but i didnt fint on which link, if u found it i wish can tell me that link huhuhuu.... Is it that mobile browser support PNG transparent background image?

So far base on my experienced, PSP web browser support PNG transparent background therefor i can enhance my web layout and also graphic design.

                  1) you would need to publish Flash Lite 2.x capable SWF from Flash 8 Pro

                  2) You would need to create video in .3gp format

                  3) You would need to serve .3gp video from rtsp server like Helix or Apple Darwin server. Unfortunately, I dont think Flash media server supports .3gp format. So you may need a second software installation on your server for streaming .3gp.

                  4) You would distribute the Flash Lite 2.x version as a SWF file that the end user installs for use with the standalone version of Flash Lite already installed on the user's computer.

                  5) For windows mobile 5, Flash Lite 2.x works on both Pocket PC and Smart Phone variants. However, there are no devices yet shipping that have Flash Lite pre-installed (except maybe Motorola Q for Amp'd mobile in US but this is not yet confirmed). So end users will need to install Flash Lite 2.1 standalone before being able to view your content. Also you should test that Flash Lite 2.1 for Smartphone, does actually support streams. Sometimes things do not work as claimed...

                  6) Flash 6 for PSP does not play anykind of video. You might be able to link to the video from Flash, but I dont know that PSP video supports any form of streaming and I am not sure it will play .3gp (which is a subset of mpeg 4). PSP may just download the video instead of play and stream.

maybe you can use some flash to mpeg converter to do that, mpeg-4 format is supported by psp.
