why would you want to fix that? it sounds ideal.
That is not ideal at all. The point of the sound is to alert them that it is their turn.
as2 or as3?
actually, it doesn't matter. in as2 and as3 sounds play in tabbed windows in ff3 that are not in focus.
so, there must be something particular about your setup that's causing the problem.
It is pretty basic. I just have a blank, 1x1 pixel with an mp3 loaded into the timeline. The only actionscript is stop(); so that it doesn't keep looping the sound. I have attached one of the sound effect .fla files.
Edit: Seems it won't let me attach the file for some reason, I uploaded it to http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=a13dca7da13b744e391d7d881749d3a7e04e75f6e8ebb871
i hear the sound play in a non-selected tab when i use as to attachSound (as2) and when i use the new constructor (as3).
Can you give an example of how to do this? I don't use flash all the much and wasn't sure how to make the sound file correctly in the first place.
var s:Sound=new Sound(this);
s.attachSound("yoursoundID"); // right click sound in library, tick export for as and create linkage id for your sound
var s:YourSoundClass=new YourSoundClass(); // right click sound in library, tick export for as and assign class name for your sound
