    AcrobatPro OCR font problem

    Gernot Hoffmann Community Member

      AcrobatPro8

      Windows XP

A book page was scanned and saved as TIFF. The TIFF is opened by Acrobat.

      OCR is applied.

The conversion is almost perfect, but some characters appear by a non-serif font

(Helvetica) instead of a serif font (Times-Roman).

Tools > Avanced Editing > TouchUp Text Tool > Select wrong character >

      Right Mouse Click > Properties

      says:

The font Times-Roman is not available.

      Substitution by TimesNewRoman is possible.

Times-Roman is nowhere installed on my PC, IMHO.

      1. Why does Acrobat use this 'not installed' font instead of TimesNewRoman, which

is in the Windows Font folder ? The glyphs are looking similar, for scan accuracy.

      2. Is it possible in Acrobat's OCR conversion to choose the font explicitly ?
