John Novotny May 30, 2009 9:53 PM (in response to Eddie Lotter)Thanks that helps a lot! What about the new budget 2 ghz quad from intel for laptops, I think it's Q9000 quad core. Is good enough for HD and PP CS4?

John Novotny May 31, 2009 7:56 PM (in response to Harm Millaard)My boss was wondering about mobile editing at work as I may be on the road quite a bit. I came up with 2 models.

System Drive: Single Drive Configuration - 320GB 7,200RPM (16MB Cache) w/ Free Fall Protection
Optical Drives : 8x Dual Layer Burner (DVD±RW, CD-RW)------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------

5. Re: For HD editing, Quad core 2 Ghz or Dual core 2.9 Ghz?
Bill Hunt May 31, 2009 8:49 PM (in response to John Novotny)If you are looking for a laptop for doing any NLE work, do not settle for fewer than 2 HDD's. Three is better. Also, make sure that all HDD's are SATA II, or above. A single HDD is asking for trouble, regardless of which CPU you go with. Two can be OK, three is better. Externals are nice, and I use FW-800's all of the time. Still, 2-3 internals will be far better.
Good luck,
Hunt

John Novotny Jun 1, 2009 9:20 AM (in response to Bill Hunt)Thanks, doubt we'll be going the mobile route unless it's for a secondary system.

7. Re: For HD editing, Quad core 2 Ghz or Dual core 2.9 Ghz?
Bill Hunt Jun 1, 2009 10:36 AM (in response to John Novotny)If you do go the laptop route, look HERE, before you purchase. Though their target audience is high-end gamers, their top-of-the-line notebooks work well for NLE work, as well. They are robust and offer a lot of great hardware configurations. They are not inexpensive, but for a laptop, you can not ask for much more. If you don't see what you want, contact them, as they do a lot of customization, and speak Video editing terms and understand those special requirements well.
Good luck, and read through all of Harm's equipment and OS articles, before you buy anything. You will not be sorry.

John Novotny Jun 3, 2009 8:51 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)The Sager notebooks look amazing, I'm somewhat concerned about putting an i7 core in a notebook, since I haven't seen anyone else do it.
