1. Re: animated gifs using PSCS3
Ricky-T Jun 6, 2009 3:54 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)I've only ever used Image Ready 7, but photoshop can now do pretty much everything Image Ready could, except load GIFs properly like Image Ready could.
Could Image Ready ever have the ability to select just the first and second frames and use the ones between to tween the all?? 7 can't at least...
To save the animated GIF file, you have to save for web devices, similar to save optimied in imageready. psd files do not support animation, only GIF files do. All the psd file will have is the layers with each frame on.

Okay, so how do I save the file? I used File -> Save for web and devices and it only shows the selected frame in the animation... I can't figure out how to save it as an animated gif.
There are other options to File -> Export -> Render video but that makes it an mov and not a gif. If I try to render an image sequence, it gives individual images and not a compiled gif image.

3. Re: animated gifs using PSCS3
Ricky-T Jun 6, 2009 5:01 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)Goto File > Save for Web Devices. When the screen pops up, make sure the file format is set to GIF. I think Photoshop detects ths automatically if you made it an animation. Then just click save. Preview it in widnows fax viewer and it plays. Note that photoshop cannot load it up as it was made like ImageReady could though....unfortinatly....

You are right, PS did detect there were multiple layers in the file, even though it only shows the first selected image in the optimized image pop up window. I viewed in my web broswer.
Thanks Ricky-T!

5. Re: animated gifs using PSCS3
Ricky-T Jun 6, 2009 5:53 PM (in response to greenjumpyone)If you look down the right hand side of that image viewer that pops up when you click save for web devices, there is actually a play and stop and such like, buttons. This will allow you to view your animation frame by frame. And any time with the whole help thing
