CS4 Template Help - Pages from Template

    suzzie12 Community Member
      have Dreamweaver CS4 on PC

I have made a template so my header and navigation bars could be updated in one place and I enabled an AP DIV to accept all the changable content.

Now that I have created the page...I want to unlock some of the code that has been grayed out and is unaccessible. Im just templating for myself...so its not like im some criminal user who wants to change my template all around! Is there some code or setting where I can unlock the source code so I can make some minor tewwks to the individual page...and yet still have the header and nav bar come across when they update?

      Thanks

You can't have it both ways.

Templates contain two basic regions: Editable and non-editable. Everything
that is not in the former is by default in the latter. When you create a
template page, you define the regions on your page where you will want to
have page-specific content as editable regions. The remainder of the page
          will be non-editable.

Changes to the template page will ONLY propagate to existing pages if those
changes are made in the NON-EDITABLE regions. If this were not the case,
then you would never be able to have unique page content, since each change
to the template page would overwrite those regions.

Now - in that context, you cannot edit regions of a child page that are
non-editable. If you need to do this, then you will have to re-think your
approach to the template, since it it not adequate for your layout.

It's not uncommon for new users to place navigation elements into editable
regions of their template. This is the wrong thing to do. But say more
about what minor teaks you are wanting to make so we can make specific
suggestions. A look at your child page (upload it and post a link to it)
          would help us help you.
